Ten Years After tribute (much better job this time)

I think this may be a little more listenable. The guitars more accurately portray what I was trying to do the first time. Please let me know what you think.

  • J,
Much better. Keep up the good work :) I like the sounds you are getting 8)
  • The electric voices are pretty sweet, and I absolutely love that accoustic tone you are getting. Much improved. 8)
  • Thank you insideout and tallone6902! :D

The tones are stock GNX4 tones (Phase4 and Ducksolo) but the acoustic work is done on a four track tape machine. I've used it for a while and it adds a 'roundness' to the tone for lack of a better description. I think it may just be the difference between analog and digital recording, but I'm too new at this to be sure. The guitar is a Sigma, a nice import from Martin that was set up by Denny Zager (Zager and Evens - \"In the year 2121\").

I have a Fishman 'rare earth' soundhole pickup, a Sure SM57, and a Audio Technica AT 2020 all fed to a Tascam PortaStudio 414MK2. The Audio Technica is preamped by a Studio Projects VTB1 V tube pre. I like that preamp because you \"dial in\" the amount of tube you want in the mix. Too much tube too fuzzy, too little tube to harsh (cold).

It took a long time to come up with a mix that left my acoustic sounding like the guitar I love to hear. But I think this is a fairly accurate sound now.

That recording was mixed down as an MP3 and fed to the GNX4 where I added the electric guitars.

I ENJOYED THE SONG AND THE SOUND OF THE GUITARS
have you tried recording with the drums --It will help you to keep the time_please don't take this wrong--It just sounds like the timing is off or something
    hey I'm no daisy---just some helpful criticizism--I hope :)

    ROCK ON
  • Much better this time around...
    keep up the good work...

    See Ya,
    Tal...
  • Thanks Tal

WOG5858, yup I think you're right. There's a bit of a rhythm issue there. Normally I would record with drums, but this time I was so pleased with how well the acoustic recorded I guess I kind of lost focus. I should revisit that with drums... gives me a new project to start.

Glad you liked the tune and the sound. As Always I had a blast doing it.
