LOCK DOWN

Hi dudes,

I noticed that the 5 words thread has been locked down due to requests from \"other\" users. How many requests does it take to get such a decision? I may be completly wrong but the impression I got was that there were only a couple of people who were unhappy with that thread. Much like anything else in life they are not forced to enter into and read or even participate in such things. They have choice. This is the General Discussion area is it not? A place where you can post threads which do not necessarily have to be about Guitars, GNX etc. I noticed the thread started off as a little light hearted fun then turned slightly sour due to a couple of posts complaining about the relevance of the subject on the forum, whatever next, complete threads deleted because a minority don't agree with the opinions put forward? Finally, this is not a dig at anyone, just my thoughts on the subject. What do the rest of you think?

TY

  • I think that it is awful that people cant allow one thread to be about fun that may not be related to guitars etc. The fact that the majority of general disc. is related to money spending on guitars and other expensive gear, as opposed to general chat about music shows that nothing is really relevant anyway.

PEOPLE IT'S FREE. YOU DONT HAVE TO LOOK AT IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO.
  • The Forum Rules say :
You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit.

The forum is NOT FREE. Someone pays for the Bandwidth and storage

The Forum is not your house. It is DIGITECH's house and we are guests.

Now I had some of my threads locked. They were not political or religious. They were not asinine. They were on technical topics dealing with Digital Signal Processing.

Unfortunately they hurt some people who had vested viewpoints and could not handle their \"conflict of interest\" in their dual roles as Moderators and independant Software vendors. So they decided to use this forum as their personal playground and shut out other possible software developers and vendors.

This hurt, but I realised that this is DIGITECH's house. I have to play by their rules.

I would recomend that you do the same and respect DIGITECH's rules on this forum.
  • Shando,
Thanks for authoring this thread. The lock down of FIVE WORDS was at my request. I'm sorry for not posting first, a message indicating that, at the end of my thread. I failed to mention that to guitar3456. I got up early this morning hoping to do that, but the request was already executed.

My decision was based upon my inability to control this thread (and a certain few who chose to disrupt it with their own agenda's) and what I hoped would be a simple inspired release of daily stress, have a few laughs, and some inspired fun.

We are artist's....so I am confident new inspiration will be possible in the future.
I work at a very stressful job and enjoy music for sanctuary. It's important for me to debreif and let the music enter into my soul. I would like to find such releases here, as I REALLY LOVE this forum and many of the people I've met here are my kind of people.

OH PLEASE BELIEVE....I also really need you guys. I have been helped enormously through the support, encouragement, and information I learn at this forum. My GNX4....it's like a wet scowling cat hissing at me and whatever I wish to do with it....I have to make quick attempts and most of the time settle for whatever I get. I'm working at learning and failing to comprehend, in short evolutions, or I would become a victim of suicide. :P

Also, I am finding myself WORKING so hard all the time....and I am NOT that disciplined....I'm afraid something is going to snap.

The Moderator's here are Fantastic, and give openly, and endlessly of themselves here, and deserve our heartfelt THANKS and SUPPORT in return. We can thank them best by our conduct....making their job easier. They run busy lives, yet sacrifice themselves in an effort to keep this forum possible, for you and me.
  • web surf,
I agree with what you are saying.
I should have been more specific in my choice of words, but then one never knows when someone is going to PARSE them.

I was utilizing an analogy....for which a sense of decorum could be established and properly understood. It was a GIVEN whose domain we all participate within. I still feel...one's personal thread should be given proper respect....as if it were their house. Read the house address...do you want to visit? read the house rules....can you abide? Then if so...I'm sure the author will welcome you.

Yes...by all means...understand Digitech's rules and abide by them. Give the same respect to each member as well. If they have any simple requests...whats the harm in accepting their wishes. Their thread is of their authorship.
  • Its really too bad because it was an extremely fun thread! The guys who ruined it really had no right to get involved in the first place. You don't have to talk guitars all the time. There are other things in life to enjoy.

Anyways, if you guys are interested in both guitar talk and some good clean fun, check out gnx4.org.
  • Look, admin takes things seriously when certain things happen mainly to put out a fire before it gets started..see smoke...handle it. These threads are examined for content. Even with filters, most can read between the lines of the messages. This is not a private forum and the rules are a bit more stringent.

PROPRIETORS- threads are examined, locked or deleted. Whether you sell software, t-shirts or hot dogs.. (I was told as well) you the proprietor may not engage or post topics in that manner or it will be considered SPAM.

In all fairness, admin sends a warning to that proprietor before the next step is taken. SO if you had a thread locked... you know you were asked to stop before the thread was either locked or deleted.

  • As one who does not participate in the forementioned thread, I find it appauling that the thread was locked. After looking through it, I it pure fun. Those who wanted it locked should simply NOT READ IT!!!!

Nothing more needs to be done about it.

This is the same argument that the FCC has against certain radio stations across the country. Censor what we do not want to hear........even though you have the freewill to not listen in the first place.

I understand that this board is run as a \"bone\" to it's listeners, and they have the authority to block inappropriate posts. But, the fact that censorship, in a perfectly benign thread, is happening (or was even considered) on this board is insane.

Many know at times, they read a post and decide when or when not to \"pull the trigger\" and post a comment.

At the request of a few users here \" I pulled the trigger\" so nobody did get out of hand. It may have been premature and I did examine the entire thread... but I saw something earlier and suggested that if a poster doesn't like a topic... don't participate. Tempers flare sometimes when someone disagrees, or whatever. But you have to consider where it may go.

Having said that, it's not as much censorship as it is slowing the pace and reminding people to be careful...which I tried to do.. This topic could have went either way. If I was premature in doing so...my apologies
  • So maybe what we need is a \"slow down\" rather than a topic lock

When stock markets rise more than x% per hour, trading is suspended for x hours. Then after that, life returns to normal.

So I suggest a mechanism wherein a thread is locked for x hours. This should make people cool down and they should see that further knee-jerk posts will result in total thread shutdown/deletion/banning etc
  • It's a judgement call. If a poster of a topic, or other users request us to validate whether of not to act... sometimes it's a balance of where it may lead. From Politics, Religion, current events, we all have feelings one way or another. I don't act unless prompted to do so. Spam of course is a different thing altogether.

Many times I have read a post, typed some knee jerk reaction, and then decided not to post. I'm sure it's the same for others as well. Sometimes we may hit \"submit\" too soon and not realize what direction it may then lead.

It's not often here that that happens unlike other forums. Most people can be respectful and mindful of others. All I can add is that if you don't like a topic..please don't participate in a way that ruffles feathers.. There are hundreds of lurkers of various ages, genders, creeds etc, that see these things.
  • hey I had a good time on that thread---I laughed out loud at some of the entries. I'm sorry that some got hurt but the truth is if we we're all in the same room together we probably wouldn't get along.

like 3456 said sometimes we post a reply without thinking of the ramifications and considering of what feathers we might ruffle.

anyways maybe next time we could do something w/out getting all pissed at each other

I am very grateful for this forum since I have learned so much from you all and I have so much more to learn

    thanx

  • And who ever said Artists are spirited, high strung, competitive, eccentric geniuses, prone to the most unconventional thought processeeez, utilizing both left and right sides of the brain, and etc.(you get the idea)....just as usual fail to understand us at all....and only seem to appreciate us most after we're dead. Since I joined this forum, this moderator that you take every possible opportunity to bash, has been increadibly helpful, positive, and always has constructive suggestions. You, my friend, have looked like the chi hua hua nipping at the heals of the bulldog. Your suggestion about a temporary lock is a good one, but comments like the quote above have gotten old. PLEASE, this is not intended to ruffle your feathers...mearly to inform you that we got the point, and it loses credibility every time you re-make it.
  • The moderators are great on this forum. Mind you, I never see GNX jammer around anymore, or that other bloke (forgot his name).
But, I think that people need to be more friendly on this forum, most people are, as usual there are only a few that are not.

Websurf: Yes someone has to pay for the bandwidth, we did. When we bought our digitech products. But now it is free for us, and it doesn't cost anymore to make larger posts.
  • The moderators are great on this forum. Mind you, I never see GNX jammer around anymore, or that other bloke (forgot his name).
    Oh...I'm still around, lurking.

Other aspects of my life simply became more time consuming and prevented me from being able to execute my responsibilities as a moderator here, so I was relieved of them.

G3456 and AlbertA deserve props for their efforts in keeping this community peaceful. It truly is a thankless task.

That being said..../SALUTE AlbertA and G3456. You guys do a fantastic job here.
  • That other bloke? He he he...

    Alrighty then....
  • Hey Other Bloke, glad to have you back
  • Yes...Howdy AlbertA!!

I'm kinda new here, but wasn't the other guy referring to the OTHER bloke?
Over at the whine & cheese forum?

  • C'mon, we all forget people's names. (sorry AlbertA) I could have exited the \"make a post\" thing and looked at the moderators, but i didn't.
Yes, I must thank the moderators (so now it isn't thankless  )
  • THANX MODERATORS YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL,

I have a sneaking suspicion that you are trying to get someone's goat !!
  • WELLL-LL....it is times like these that you really have to thank your friends for helping out.

I just spent 12 hours detention in holding cell #4 down in sub-level 3 of the Forum Index Building. I heard some voices laughing and saying something about how they wondered how I got a picture of J and X Hammer. I don't know what they are talking about. :?

I doubt I've learned my lesson, as I tend to do things different. Somehow it always costs me.

  • Wait is that spielberg with a couple of goats?
  • Sure looks like Spielberg
