  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>I've had the very same problem...I s'pose most people who try to write songs do. What happened to mine was this it started as music with no lyrics; then the lytics I wrote sucked; then I decided the whole song was going nowhere, so I changed the whole 'feel' of the music and rerecorded it. Since the song took on a whole new feel, I was able to put lyrics into it that reflected the new feel, and now it's much more ofwhat I had in mind.
Bottom line - don't be afraid to \"mess\" with a song...you rarely get it exactly right on the first try, and you can always go back!
PS Flyd/Sister recording is a trip. Great music though, it's one of those things that could turn into a great song!!!
  • 8) Don't get bummed out, :? :) sometimes when I listen for too long I start to loose perspective or forget the thing or idea that I am trying to say in the first place. Sometimes just backing away for a few them coming back fresh helps. I personaly dig the music you have written, it could be complete just the way it is. But if you feel the need for more to complete your thoughts if its not saying all you want to say perhaps you could add a haunting sweet little melody with some tasty filled in harmonys...sorta a compact song in a song thing. just my 2 cents great tune I like the voices at the front and end sort of a \" if you don't eat your meat how can you have any pudding\" part very cool. don't give up your almost done...can't wait to hear the finished product.
  • Excellent replies to this topic. Can I also add, consider adding a completely different song to it. Either creating a [old song]+[new song]+[old song] composition. Or just a [old song]+[new song] composition.

This has worked for me in the past, much better for me if the 2 songs are different tempos and different keys and different feel. Brings up some interesting ways to modulate from one to the other.

I also sometimes put them out of sight and try to forget about them for 3 or 4 months. Going back with fresh ears you get to hear what other people hear and it makes it easier to decide what a song needs for extra flavour. If you have trouble letting go of a song, try moving on to another.
  • All good advice.
    I'll re-record it,
    Smile,
Won't get bummed out, add a melody,
All in about three or four months.
    :P

    Sounds good to me!

I would add sometimes all we need is just a little inspiration.

That'll give me time to learn this new Fantom X8 I just picked up.
Should have some awsome backing sounds for my music in this thing!
Hope my Takamine and Fender don't get jealous. :D:wink:
  • Hey great song, ....If you want to end the song, I believe you can work on the melody at 1:38-1:41 I think it can be a good bridge or ending depending on the way you build around it.

I liked the song, by the way, as it is now, but if you feel it is not complete, in my humble opinion, I would probably change the feel and/or tempo after 1:38-1:41 add a melody and come back to the initial feeling and conclude after elaborating around 1:38 -1:41 segment, letting the last note hang in the air and fade out. I would keep the voices at the end too
    :D:D:D
  • Nice tune Roger... 8) .
    My suggestion is this...

If you're gonna do an avant garde pice go full out...
    You're almost there :)
    And you're right...

Floyd and Zappa are the kings of this kind of rock.. 8) .
  • You can simply not finish it, ala \"Alice Cooper - Unfinished Sweet.\" The lack of an ending actually helps the song.
