How can I playback midi composition with GNX4 ?

I've just bought a GNX4, and I'm wondering if I can playback a midi file (composition) with GNX4 to play with it ?
I mean that Midi composition consists of many instruments not just drums.
I have simple sound card, and GNX4 is connected to PC with a USB cable.
I have also tried to select GNX4 MIDI OUT in my favourite midi player (Guitar Pro 4) but GNX4 plays only drums.

Please tell me where am I wrong ?

Thanks a lot !

  • but GNX4 plays only drums

    Exactly!
    :P
You haven't gone wrong. It's a midi drummer in the GNX4, not a midi player. I use ableton live lite when I want to do that sort of thing.

    HTH,
    Dobb.
  • What is ableton ? If it is software, then maybe I need to buy the professional sound card with cool onboard synth and banks ?
In generall: GNX4 delivers our the great guitar sounds ! So, to make a song we need to get some other instruments. How do the people do it (in home variant)? I thought we need professional sound cart + VST instruments? Am I right ?
  • there are a bunch of ways go about it. The GNX will be your main go to for guitar. you can use the PTP software (basically Sonar 2) and create your own drum patterns. The GNX drum machine is like most others and is not a sequencer. For that you need Sonar, or equivalent. Some of the programs and plugins are decent enough for most sound cards but I would strongly recommend a sound card of professional recording level.

EMU 0404, 1202M etc. Then you need a controller for midi programming. I use the Xboard 49. maudio and others make them too.

The Proteus package ($149) is a 404 with a full version of Proteus synths.

Once you step into home recording, be sure your PC can support the devices and products you wish to use. Minimum requirements must be exceeded in most cases. have at least 512-1G or ram.
