guitar 3456's supermodels, these are a MUST HAVE!

I just got 3456's supermodel collection in today. In my early examination I found his product was very easy to implement and I learned a great deal about the GNX4 and Xedit as well. Thank for that 3456!

But that's just the beginning. These models are so much like the real thing I just can't believe how good they sound!!! One hell of a good job there 3456!

If you are new to this forum and haven't checked them out yet I strongly suggest you do so. I could have worked for days and not come up with even one patch that sounded so good. In this case you get a full library. Make room on your preset list. Those bothersome factory presets are a thing of the past now. GET READY TO ROCK!

I would like a sample of something that I recognize before I drop that kind of cash on something I can't hear in person.
  • Sure, I guess I can't blame you. Though I didn't think it was all that much to spend thinking about how much I've already spent on various guitar related items. Anyhow, there are dozens of freebee examples of this work up on the forum (you could try searching around and you'll find a great deal). But, if you like you could also go here:

    http://www.mtprosound.com/MTPROPAGE1/Links.html

I'm fairly certain there's a bunch there for you to check out as well.

    Hope that helps.
  • I went ahead and ordered it. I hope it is as good as you say. I tried a few of his other patches that were on the 3000 link above through my poweramp so I could hear the intended sound, but they were very tinny and fuzzy. The one John P sound he posted is good. I hope the sounds on the disk are better though.
  • This is more than just a collection of patches. This is a series of amp and cab models (there are also numerous patches).

Read the documentation, apply some of the new models, tweak and enjoy. There is so much on that disk it would take a long time to audition all of it. I've also learned a great deal about tweaking some of my patches and using (understanding) the GNX in general.

The more time I spend working with this unit the more it delivers.

I'm certainly not the most experienced voice on the forum (there is a lot to learn just reading past posts). but if there is any way I can help, let me know.

Tinny and fuzzy, sounds like you had Speaker compensation off...

That is because I was playing through a power amp into a 12\" speaker. The XLR out has SC on but the SC should be off in the 1/4 out into a power amp and speaker cab.
  • It all depends on the impedance (input) of your amp. If it's too high you want SC on. If it's low enough SC off will serve to deliver a nice input. Secondly, it depends on the speaker of the Guitar Amp as well since that is 50% of the coloring produced by most amps. Modeling amps are colored (altered) by the guitar amp and speaker voicing. If you are not sure of the input imp, select SC in both on and off and see what you prefer.

The GNX is a Model of a working amp. Add that to a Guitar Amp and the sound is colored. Hence you will have to have different settings when using your guitar amp..ie gain lower on amp models (I think it gives the amp more room to do it's job) EQ changes, and cabinet tuning to counter the speaker coloration.

What you hear from headphones or on recordings with the GNX is Full Range signal unaffected by any coloring of any amp or speaker system. Eminence Modeling 12's are as transparent as any guitar speaker you can find.
  • ok but when playing through a power amp into a spaker then it should stay rather uncolored, right? What is the best way to get the same sound from headphones to amp? I was reading a bunch on your website, but I am confused. I didn't buy your CD to sound cool in headphones. I play out a few times a month and havn't really used my GNX due to it's factory preset sound. Your CD is supposed to fix all that dead tone, so I want to be able to use it live. Into the PA as well as the small power-amp into a cabinet for stage sound, which I keep relatively low. I like to be able to hear someone speak on stage.
  • Speaker compensation on = Flat frequency response from GNX
Speaker compensation off = Appears to be a 20dB shelf EQ with corner freq. 7.5Khz...in other words not flat from GNX, sometimes sounds good with some guitar amps/cabinets
  • I did notice that it takes away some of the hissy sound when you turn on the SC. Also are there patches that dont sound fuzzy? I mean with the tube amp simulations I notice the tone is still fuzzy on the factory presets. I am guessing your supermodels are probably far superior to the presets on there now. I will just have to wait and see I guess.
  • SFKillswitch, you won't be disappointed, but remain open minded when you get the disc.

I didn't like the brand of amps I thought I would have initially and leaned more toward Amps I would have never guessed I'd like

Yeah, factory presets are fuzzier than the super models. The super models are \"tighter\" and \"clearer\"

That is what I needed to hear. That is the biggest issue I have with the GNX3000. For metal it is great to have that fuzzy distortion, and I use that for some stuff, but for southern rock and blues the tone needs to be polished and round. Something I was worried the GNX3000 couldn't do. At home I love the super distorted sounds for playing Megadeth and Lamb Of God and stuff, but I play in a southern rock band and so far this effects board hasn't made the grade. 3456, any ideas on which sounds on your disk will fill the bill?

From the top of my mind the Plexi Drv is a very dynamic bluesy tone with the volume rolled down.

Stevey Ray patches, Gilmour also give me that \"clean\" distortion... Also plexi comp that's another one...
  • Once I finish this Peavey Mace repair, I'll set it up sample and post it. The Mace was widely used by South rockers in the day!
  • g3456, post some samples for people like me :)
  • yeah keep em comin 3456,
when I had my gnx3 I barely messed w/ it at all---but with the gnx4 and supermodels I'm makin patches and adjusting stuff all day long and having a great time. Next I'm gonna start using banks instead of just stompbox for live use.
    thanx for the disc 3456

  • I just got finished with my first patch from the new disk. I loaded the Marshall Mode 4 HVY into the red and the Mode 4 CLN into the green. A few tweaks here and there and BAM!!! A sick patch with wonderful heavy Zakkish tone on channel 2 without unusable gain, and a killer clean channel on 1. It is silly that I feel totaly happy with just one pathch because I can go on and on for months with all the damn choices we get on the disk. I guess it doesn't matter what kind of music I play now, I can sound like anything I want with the vast library on that disk. Thanks Mike.

And you where worried to shell out the money *snicker*
  • Glad I didn't oversell the product. I'm new to playing but I've been using my ears for many years!

Don't overlook the Hi Watt selections. \"Top Lead\" is screamin' A lot of drive and a crisp crunch. Huge amounts of sound! :D
  • To add 2 cents, don't forget about the tutorials. I read the GNX3k owners manual 3 times and still felt slightly overwhelmed. There's a lot of info there, and trying to translate it from theory to practice can be frustrating for a modeler noobie. I watched the SS tutorial ONE time on how to build a patch from the ground up, and just try and stop me now! (okay, maybe that was more like 4 cents  )
