vote for a patch? why?

i uploaded my first patch today and noticed that there is a 'vote for' box to click on asking if you liked the patch or not. anyone know why this exists. i've looked at hundreds of patches before (had an rp200 before my gnx) and i don't recall seeing any kind of feedback on how much people liked the patches.
