I PTP midi unfriendly?

Using PTP without ant real problems, although all the tutorials arent there. Is that normal? I think I've got 1,5,6 or something like that. I wanted to learn the use of midi tracks but dont have any info on it really. When the GNX 4 comes back from the shop it should work OK but I tried hooking up my drum machine and it wouldnt recognize any midi devices at all. ????? I had a heck of a time getting the hang of the program in general a first but feel pretty confident about using it now. 'Cept fer this midi stuff.

Oh yeah, HP, XP, Celeron, 768 ram, stock Realtech soundcard, Midisport uno>usb.
