  • cool article.
I think the biggest difference (and bear with me here knowledgable types = i AM a newbie afterall!) between MFX and real amps is the way they move air.

im still not totally satisfied with some of the GNX3000 DI recording tones, although i think it sounds F****ing great coming from my HIFI speakers. I havent tried it through anything bigger - but i bet a good poweramp (mebbe with some of the valve/tube solutions ive heard you lot mention) would be mint!

sometimes MFX through speakers can sound like you're listening to a cd of someone playing the guitar instead of that physical feeling you get from an actual amp.

I love DI recording (recording in silence at 2am = brill!) but i dont think it matches the way a microphone 'hears' a speaker.

best tone i ever recorded (and i know that doesnt mean much round here) was my little Marshall MG10CD with a cheap mic a few inches from the speaker = bloody fantastic!! and that wasnt even a tube/valve amp!
