  • It's hard to help you with the limited info provided......

First, the GNX boxes are fairly complex, with something of a learning curve. Out of the box, it's hard to just plug one in and have the tone you're looking for. You need to read the manual, which will tell you a lot, such as, that there's a program that comes with the gnx3k called x-edit that does just what you're asking about.......lets you look at the presets and program them, download new ones and tweak things more like you want them.....it's rare when a patch that you download or play sounds just like you want it too, they usually require tweaking.......

Also, your equipment plays a huge part, and we don't know what you're running your gnx through......you should read the posts here and at the old forum about amps, and getting good tone.....

So basically, everything you need is in the manual and here, just have to dig in and learn about your gnx3000........

    good luck,

    Bill
  • You know, it takes a person about twice as long to read something written in ALL CAPS rather than normally. You ought to revert to proper capitalization, or avoid it altogether.

Also, I'm not one to pry into a man's personal affairs, but if you heard a GNX4 demo and liked the sound of it, why did you go out and buy a GNX3000? I'm not asking to be a smartass, it's just that GNX3000 modeling is much different than the previous models. You can convert presets between GNX1, 2, 3, 4.... but not 3000. DON'T GIVE UP YET! GNX3000 can get the sound you need, it's just that starting with GNX3000 it's done quite a bit differently.

I looked on the Digitech web site and can't find the sound sample you're referring to. Link it, and we'll help you tweak the same tone on GNX3000.
  • Ouch! My eyes are bleeding!
DIGITECH ASSISTANCE TOLD ME THE NAME FOR THAT PRESET WAS SMOOTHY AND COULD'VE BEEN FOUND ON THE GNX3000 AS WELL
Thats why he bought it
  • OK, I just went all the way to the basement and got my GNX3k and plugged it in. Right now I'm playing the JUMPRECT factory patch, and it sounds quite a bit like the Smoothy that maharzan posted. Go through the factory patches - perhaps there's one that sound like it. If you're brave, try tweaking the Plexis.

As far as DT customer assistance, they'll tell so much dumb bull***t! I've given up trying to get any useful/meaningful information from those guys. I'm even saving the e-mails of the responses they've sent me that had nothing to do with the questions I was asking.
  • Ok guys sorry for the caps, however, I'm using an Ibanez steve vai model jem 77 tru a transistor marshall 80 watts.
I've tried with a les paul, a charvel, but nothing, i cant get those damn presets to sound like that sound I heard
The reason why i bought the 3000 instead of the gnx4 were 2: In my country, Naples Italy, it was hard to still find the gnx4 and also because I didnt want a recording machine with it sinci I own a little studio.
Now I downloaded thedemo from http://www.totalsonic.nl/HTML/digitech/GeneditSoftware/GNX4demo.mp3

Please help me out, this is what I need,
  • Ummm, speaker compensation ON?
  • i tried both with speaker compensation on and off. nothing
    Please help me out.
  • However guys dont make fun of me, i've always used digitech products,
i was the happy owner of a 2120 artist until it broke down and couldn't be fixed.
Now please help me out getting that sound.....
  • maybe some nice GNX4 owner will tell you the settings of the smoothy patch so you can begin to try and replicate it on the 3000?
  • Dt technical assistance has done that and they didnt work, lot of the stuff that I see into the gnx3k were not into the parameters they gave me, however did you guys went on the link i put in the previous post? is that really the smoothy preset? does anyone know of a preset viewer that works with gnx4 patches so that I can tryand look at the settings myself? i do have the patch for smoothy but of course cant load it into gnx3k and cant view it as well.......
    please help
  • there's a patch viewer on www.codekinesis.com - but if the patch is a preset it wont be posted anywhere for you to view = i havent listened to the patch myself as im on 56k dial up and it would take like..........fo........re.....v.....er
    im afraid.
  • Patch viewer only works for GNX1-3 I think.
  • Which tone? Ryth of lead? Sounds like they used a Strat. Jem won't be like that so you'll have to tweak it out anyway. I'll see what i can do on the 3000.
  • Thanks for everything guys but I strongly believe the presets they sent were not the ones for that demo sound....
    pls help
  • I tried last night, with GNX3000. Started with a plexi on mid gain setting, warped with some Digitech high-gain model. Added some cab warp to get rid of some of the buzzy sound. Then I played along with the sample that you linked - it sounded very close. With the right stompbox model and chorus/reverb settings, it was the smoothiest smoothy I've ever heard!

While I understand that you really want that one sound (and I'm certain that you'll get it), I would highly recommend tweaking your way to it rather than relying on patches sent by other users or Digitech. You'll learn a lot more in the process, and will likely stumble upon other sounds that you want too. Don't limit yourself - the workstations are entirely too powerful for that.
  • Can you send me the presets you came up with???
    Please!!!!!!!
  • Well I tweaked it a little further, but I'll post it up in the patch area on digitech soundcomm. I was monitoring on flat headphones from GNX headphone output, with XLR level about 1/4\" way, so make adjustments accordingly.
  • thanks

I just downloaded it, i will try it later on, I will let you know
  • i tried it, it sounds ok but a little fuzzy, can you help me out to make it go away???
  • my goal is to get a sound like the one GREG HOWE has on introspection and in particular on the first tuen JUMPSTART.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
    Can anyone help me out?
