I like the lead guitar work that you layerd in on the last run of the chorus, nice touch always for the build towards the end.
Here are a few suggestions if you care, certainly not nessacary but stuff i would do (maybe not for you).
#1 either remove some of the reverb and delay on the vocals / guitar or add some presence and reverb to the drum kit. Everything in the mix is quite heavily hit with FX and has a pleasent feel but the drums sound dry in comparison, this is mostly that snare. I think that moving that snare back in the mix will help quite a bit too
#2 Sonically the vocals and the guitar / bass work could be further apart. Right now they are muddied a bit by this, if you try some different patches on the guitar or maybe just by lowering the delay and reverb on the vocals you can create a distinction. maybe move the bass a little more forward in the mix too.
#3 maybe some harmonizing on the chorus or last run of the chorus.
the song structure is working well
verse, prechorus, chorus, middle8, verse, prechorus, chorus... could even repeat the chorus 2x then end
well that's about it because i don't understand the lyrics so i cannot comment on those.
love to hear the whole CD when it's finished
i still have to learn the mixing part.. i did read iliaces articles at gnx4.org. Hz and kHz.. makes me crazy.
ye, its drumsite full version.. i am still searching for a good drum sound. and i am not a drummer too.. lol
glad u like the song.. forget about the lyrics.. the main theme - is it love or just coincidence.. u know sometimes u experience it.. does she love me or not etc... sort of things..
i don't like the distortion sound.. am still searching for one.. i'll do this once again hopefully tomm.. i am trying to give the best so as to reduce studio costs.
Can't give you tips regarding recording... sounds great for me... it's really dynamic... what I can say for sure is that this song is a well composed Rock/Pop Song.
Thx for posting
The stereo is nice on the drums. I would gate the reverb a little more (i.e. sooner) on the snare, if that's a possibility. Cymbal crashes in the right ear are too loud. Many kicks come close to clipping, especially in the first half (seems to be better in the second half). Also, the drums could stand to come down, overall - a bit too loud - might be your compressor settings in part.
The EQ between bass and kick drum needs to be balanced a bit better. Try to keep them out of each other's way, that way the bass won't be so boomy and you'll be able to make it more audible. Since the bass line is following the voice in many parts, making it clearer and giving its own frequency range will enhance the sound of the lead vocal.
The overdubbed guitar leads create a nice fullness to the overall sound. The rhythm guitar is nice in the background. Not sure whether intentionally, but the distorted rhythm guitar (right before the \"mayahokio\" part) is muddy. It works well in the chorus where it's the backdrop to the lead guitar, but you could make it just a bit more prominent where no such backdrop is heard.
You changed the sounds on the guitar leads pretty well, too. The transition between backing leads and lead leads (how do you like that terminology?) is very smooth and effective.
The ambience is excellent on the voice, but one thing you could do is link it to a compressor sidechain of the main voice mix to get it to stand out in the loudest parts. As it is, it can get old before the song is over. Again, this is more coming from someone who's gotten used to dissecting mixes - a casual listener won't pay any attention to that, but the added effect of reverb/delay responding to the dynamics of the vocal will be noticed.
The overall ambience could stand to match the vocal ambience a little more. Try running the drums through some of the same reverb as voice (turn them down first) - this will allow you to \"move them around\" in the mix, as to the perceived location (absolute and relative) on the soundstage that you're creating. More reverb on drums than voice will amount to the listener hearing the voice \"in front\" of the drums.
Don't forget that you can also create several reverb/delay tracks (by using bounce-to-track in PTP) and layer them in the final mix. Depending on the section of the song (verse, prechorus, chorus) you can take certain ambience tracks out, and bring others up in volume - this will add interest to the song.
It's good to hear that there are people out there who don't overcompress their mixes. I'm certainly guilty of using too much compression too often. You did well in preserving dynamics of the mix.
Good job overall. I listened to it several times in a row (also heard it at work a few days ago) and it's a pretty cool tune.
will post the song again after doing that.
again thx for all the positive critisism and comments.. i do appreciate a lot. and i have couple of songs waiting in line.. have done some rough ones with GNX4.. will post them as well.. however, if u want to listen to the perfext mixed songs..then u'll have to buy
ok.. back to recording...
