www.getthatsound.com

tasty site - shows famous rigs and has ebay links to the items so you can replicate.

not sure exactly HOW accurate the info is but.. good place to start patch building.

also check out;

www.guitargeek.com

anyone else got any others?

  • I've run into this page on about.com that has links to the guitargeek rig database, but also for some artists to off-site pages that have more narrative descriptions of various rigs and modifications. A lot of people (early Blackmore, for example) had heavily customized rigs with some weird (for lack of better word) components.

    Thank got for GeNetX; otherwise, we'd have to spend $1000s on single-purpose vintage equipment!

  • well these sites are really useful for the old skool way of patch building (using ears) but what with the spectum analyzed hyper models it hardly seems worth it :P

    just wait for the cds!

  • Once I come down from my GNX3 supermodels kick, I want to see what kind of \"outlandish\" sounds I can get with the GNX3k. Cause up to now, I've used the effects (combinations of pitch, comp, gate, mod, stompboxes) to create synth-like sounds and other instruments impressions (organ, sax, so forth). But using the warp stuff, I'm sure it's possible to narrow down specific overtone ranges that sound like particular instruments. Hopefully it'll work.
  • im still at a very basic level i guess - i got the GNX and the variax so i could see what a gretsch would sound like if you ran it through a tube screamer into a vox ac30 in a 4x12 cabinet with some slap back echo and reverb etc..

    endless combinations = hours of fun for me :D

    simple things for simple minds i guess!
