USB - MIDI

I currently have midi in my sound card, but I'm only able to connect 1 device to it. If I connect my GNX, and try to also connect my keyboard, the keyboard will NOT be recognized. I've tried every configuration and many different cables.

I have arrived at the conclusion that I'm better off adding a USB-Midi connector so I wont have to change the cables every time I want to connect the other device.

My question is (finally): Will a USB-midi device override the existing midi device or will I be able to use both devices (one connected to GNX, other to the keyboard)?

Any recommendations for a USB-Midi connector?

  • I think you will be able to use both at once. I have MIDI in-outs on both my SW1000XG synth card and on my Layla 24/96 sound card and they both work at the same time.
  • I have my Roland XP30 synth in the midi loop, no problems, and my GNX3 works fine. You may need to check your channel settings and make sure both devices are set to send/receive on proper channels (if you're not simply setting them both to \"omni\"). Also make sure the loop is set up properly.

Soundcard midi out --> Synth Midi In
Synth Midi Through or Midi Out --> GNX Midi In
GNX Midi out --> back to Soundcard Midi In.

FWIW...I'm only using the keyboard/midi port on my Creative Audigy. Nothing fancy.
  • Thanks for your replies. I am setting them the omni. I have tried different channels without success.
