  • It supports sizes up to 2 Gig. I have a 1 Gig and it's fine.

I just bought the generic brand at my local store. Works fine. I forgot about the type 1 thing. I'm suspicious Type II cards are pretty rare to be honest, but I'm not sure on that.

    Cheers,
    Kim.

  • type 2 cards are thicker and you'll know cause it won't fit. type 2's are as big as a microdrive

  • I have the Lexar Pro 2GB (80X speed). It works fine. I have so far use it to store MP3s and record without a hitch.

I didn't get mine from Amazon so this might not be the cheapest price.

If you're on a budget, you can save a lot of money by going with smaller cards, ones in the 256M to 512M range. A 2GB card is around $200, a 1GB card is $100. But you can get a 512MB (= 1.5 hours of recording time on the GNX4) for about $25 if you're willing to hunt around a little. So you can get 2GB of storage for half the price by buying four 512MB cards.

As far as which brands to buy, it probably doesn't matter at all. The chips inside those things are all probably made in the same four or five facilities, and then packaged in CF cartridges labeled with whichever vendor's logo. Also, audio data is pretty much insensitive to the most common memory hardware errors (single-bit inversions - no human is going to notice the difference if a few bits are flipped in a 1MB audio sample), so even if you get a low-quality chip that you wouldn't want to store your tax data on, it's probably still going to work just fine for recording.

Incidentally, I noticed that the GNX4 specs say it only supports CF cards 32MB and larger, but it accepted an old 16MB card I had lying around. Gave me a whopping 3 minutes of recording time...

  • I voted Lexar as with digital camera they were better on support. Ask on the pro camera forums. That aside, try crutial.com and look for reconditioned, they are still covered and were $8 when I was looking for 64M I missed the buy and ended up with Lexar's on sale for $11. I have 2 512's from My digital camrea I use also as you get good record time
  • i use a 256 MB flash car and it works just fine but id love to have a 2 GB so i wouldnt have to dump stuff on my computer as often cuz im lazy hahahah:)
