    Nice one...
  • OK, how about a built-in power conditioner, a stereo 300W/channel RMS power amp (with 2/3-octave graphic equalizers for each channel), and an onboard CD/DVD-RW? Maybe also a VGA-out and support for an AudioDNA-based operating system; Cakewalk should come already installed on the GNX itself. Also, I want a T-Shirt that says \"AudioDNA inside\" with a DigiTech logo on the front.

I'm expecting all this to fit in my GNX4 gig bag, mind you. Including the shirt.

He he, looks doable to me!! Bring it on DigiTech! he he he...
  • how about an eq on/off switch
  • As soon as they add an amp-separate EQ module....

But it already has one... OR are you referring to something else?
  • Ideas I've liked so far that don't seem to be price killers:

    AlbertA:
    -Full parametric EQ
    -Left and right amps

    Ilia:
    -Tap switch multiplier
    -More comprehensive mixer capabilities

    DON'T FORGET ASSIGNABLE CONTROLLER FOOTSWITCHES!!!
  • While yer at it, how about an internal pitch to midi converter with a full midi synth/sequencer with assignable outputs?
  • That'd be sweet, at least in some basic form. I've always wanted a guitar synth, just never wanted to invest time/money in one...
  • I would like to see the Octavider, Synth, Filter and Auto-Filter functions in future GNX units. On BNX3, these were available in the IPS section, so maybe that would be a good place for them (perhaps also an auto-filter and/or synth in the mod section). I guess it's not really necessary to have full customizability as Adrenalinn's or something like that, but at least some possibilities would be sweet (definitely LFO assignments are a must). Since the new GNX units seem to incorporate bass and guitar modeling it makes sense to put these in, and it'd be cool to have some synth guitar or a couple of filter sequences for techno-ey effects.

  • Just a few thoughts here - based on having several MFX... Some have been mentioned here already.

    1) Global EQ adjustment (parametric, fully adjustable Q and frequencies, 4 band minimum).

    2) Solo boost (bumps mids, gain and level - adjustable - like the GT8). Needs its own pedal. This could also be reassigned to other effects/switches.

    3) Dual amp mode - allows completely independent left and right preamp/cabinets to be used (keep Warp as it is...only available on non stereo preamp mode).

    4) Fully configurable FX chain with FX loop... again, like the GT8. This would be so great to have if you want to use your own amp via the 4CM like with the GT8.

    5) Add a few more modern preamp/cabinet models (guitar) like the boutique ones from TopHat, Bogner, Cornford, and Engl... whoever else.

    6) SPDIF output - must have for those of us who use an SPDIF interface for everything.

    7) USB is okay. Definitely a must for Xedit/Updates, Patch manipulation, etc. Make the USB drivers a little more friendly - they don't like to work with my other DAW software.

    8) Two expression pedals - like the TLSE. I like being able to dedicate one to volume and the other to whatever else. Of course, keep them both 100% assignable.

    9) Another modulation effect bank/pedal. To allow for phaser/flanger, and other good mod-combos.

    10) Drum machine - keep building up the variety of sets and patterns.

    11) I'd like to see a zero-latency Guitar to Bass effect that is configurable... and would give me a reason for using the bass amp models. :)

    12) I like the form factor of the GNX3K a lot... the new unit would need to be wider to accomodate the extra pedals and expresson pedal.

    That's about it for now.
  • remember the 2120? Combine the 2120 with the GNX3000. Make it rack mountiable.

Pre-EQ is the pickup sim; it works great, but perhaps it would make sense to combine it with a more adjustable pre-EQ, then have a few \"preset\" settings that allow pickup modeling.

Post-EQ should be graphic, IMHO. The parametric w/ adjustable Q should be the pre-amp. I'd like to see a 7-band graphic EQ at the end of the chain.

I think what they really need to do is keep the assignable controllers as such! One idea I had that I thought was pretty good is allowing a selectable function for what is known as \"preset bounceback\" in bank mode of GNX3000. So, instead of only selecting between bypass and bounceback, allow it to change the current patch (meaning, assign AMP CH, any of the 3 CTRL functions, or TAP). This of course will allow to program a \"boost\" function.

Of course, this needs to be aided by allowing controllers to be assigned to the amp eq gain settings...

Definitely need insert capability like GT-8 (or better yet, like the GT-PRO). However, I would definitely like to see a \"reset\" function on any kind of fully-configurable effects chain.

The other issue would be changing the matrix. Perhaps an LED number (calculator-style) to indicate what the current order is. If not, at least the up/down arrows should go in the order of the FX chain, not in the order of the matrix.

And it'd be sweet to have an assignable V-Switch. That should be aided by having a \"switch\" value, besides the maximum value on the range of the expression pedal. In other words, if I have WhamPdl as V-Switch off, and Wah as V-Switch on, and the WhamPdl max is 99, I want it to go to 0 (or another user-defined setting) when I switch to Wah.

A kit selection like on GNX4 would be nice, too.
  • Microphone effect independent of guitar effects - other than reverb / delay would be nice

That's certainly achievable if they give us dual processing engines, like the GT-8 does. They should also allow more routing configurability in general, but certainly having the ability to run two effects chains (or perhaps even just two amp models) should be a byproduct. This would be best in a mechanism that serves all of the requested potential usages: running different amps in stereo, crossfading between patches (without delay or audible switching silence), running microphone/line through processing selectively (i.e., through compression and reverb, but not amp model - same as you can do with guitar), and configuring any input to go to any output, or at least somewhat better internal mixer tweaking.

Or maybe a fully-configurable dry or semi-dry tracks? On GNX3 you can route microphone through modulation (inputting right after amp), as opposed to only two options on GNX4/3k. Allowing complete control of input/output of a particular signal path (i.e., instrument, mic, line, or recorder) would also allow effects chain configurability, it would seem. If you had even two of them, you could run compression + chorus (bypassing amp) on one, then patching into the second one with amp turned on - resulting in preamp chorus placement. With four paths, you could have two setups like that, plus crossfade between them or have different dual amp/cab combinations configured in each.

That seems like a cost-effective way to address a whole lot of requests. Of course, then we wouldn't be able to use all features at once, but at least enough of them would be available.
  • here is what i want from my next guitar modeling device. absolutely no recording or preamp functions, i just want the most accurate tube amp models that soung accurate dry of effects, with the dynamics of a tube amp, reacting to the guitars volume control and pick attack just like a tube amp, guitar straight in, great stomp models. MIDI connection editor librarian instead of USB. great intelligent harmonizer and a reverb which rivals the PodXT's reverb.

    Buy the Vox tonelab. Seriously...
  • the tonelab still models the amp characteristics digitally; the only tube part is a power amp simulation.

    >99% of people will have trouble telling what amp model you are using, let alone tell you if its been digitally modeled or is real tube.
  • I know how to make the expression controls better! X-Edit should allow you to draw an envelope of the curve that the expression pedal follows, and allow various kinds of jumps (i.e., immediate, exponential, linear, etc). Then, save the patch on GNX and good to go! Same with LFOs. Perhaps a few other things too.
  • I just bought a gnx4 after waiting like 8 years?(i could be wrong here) after buying the rp2000. It seems like the same exact unit. Before i get fooled again, it had better sound different. A tube would be cool. a more enriched xedit program with the ability to activate the drum machine and tuner with an onscreen display. Actually a stripped down version with no recorder, memory card, drum machine, expression pedal, phantom powered preamp, nothing but oodles of awesome sounds would be nice. Actaully in another 8 years it had better be just a core unit that runs through a pci-express port harnassing the power of a Pentium XII processor where all you have to upgrade is the software to get the latest sounds.
  • Not necessarily an improvement to the GNX4 itself but I would like the ability to drag and drop presets in Xedit. That way I can organize how I want my presets to be arranged on the fly and not have to go through the hassle of reloading them into the unit. I have several presets already loaded that now that I have become more accustomed I would like to rearrange them in a different order.

Also the ability to edit the Banks via Xedit as well. Seems many of these options could be achievable simply by updating Xedit and perhaps the firmware as well.
  • I am a big fan of the GNX4 midi drums. However, there is no way to turn off the GNX4 midi drums if you want, or need, to run an external drum machine. Also, the lack of midi clock and sync borders on the unforgivable for those of us control freaks who want everything to start and stop at the same time.

A built in drum machine would be pretty tight as well...
  • iliace,

Digitech have been providing multiple processing engines since the GNX2. The GNX2 has 2 processing engines, I think the GNX4 has as many as 4. The BOS announcement of 2 processing engines is marketing hype, IMHO.

    dcunning30,

The boss unit allows for two separate signal paths. The GNX does not. I was suggesting that would be a good idea in a future unit of its caliber, to process line/mic signal separately, or mix two outputs. Read my suggestions more carefully.
  • I understand you. As I understand it, 2 AudioDNA processors are for the warping feature. I would think it be easy for Digitech to be able to route the red and green channels to left and right output. But then again, how will that work with stereo effects? BTW, how does Boss accomodate two signal paths when considering stereo effects?
  • I don't have much experience with this (maybe Kewlpack can contribute), but I believe the routing is flexible at that stage also. From some of the effects diagrams, it looks like you can either mix before the effect, after the effect, both, or neither.

    Hello all,
It's been a while since I've been here. I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but I will later...I'm at work at the moment Hopefully I won't be duplicating anyone else's request.

I read the opening post and that sounded great. I'd also like to see more recordable tracks on the recorder. Maybe make it a 16 track recorder or 24 track recorder. If you're looking at the current layout of the recorder, you could add a forward and backward button. They would be like a DVD's remote control arrow selector buttons. You could press say the forward button and the tracks being shown would scroll over to the one you wanted to record to. The LED display would display which track you're currently selected on.

I hope this makes sense the way I wrote it. I find that I run out of 8 tracks quickly. I've been looking at getting a seperate recorder because of it, like a 24 track recorder, but I like the simplicity of the GNX4 recorder.

Another cool addition would be an effects loop and the ability to place it anywhere in the effects chain along with the other onboard effects. Say you've got an effect that you really want to use at a specific location in the effects chain. I think this would be nice.

    Anyways, this is my request.

By the way, I've been trying to listen for a new GNX product. Is there any news of one being in development at the moment, and if so, when is the suspected/rumored release date?

    Thanks!
  • Wow, my old eyes found it hard to read that pink font. I had to hit CTRL-A to read it.

    I must need glasses.

    Copy That!

I've switched backgrounds long ago, which really helps.
    Go into your Profile...
and choose the .......Board Style...( sub-Silver )

It really helps me, and makes everything much sharper.
It also helps on fonts and images. Much easier on the eyes. 8)
