64 bit drivers for GNX

I just put a new computer together and installed WinXP pro x64. I have installed Pro Tracks and the Xedit software with no probs, but the USB drivers for the GNX are not compatible with x64. I asked digitech tech support if they planned to produce any 64 bit drivers and the dude who replied had no idea what I was talking about and said \"the gnx is 24 bit and we don't intend to support 64 bits\" (reference the audio sampling rate)...

so the question is, who has ideas about a solution for this problem? No doubt any new studio computer equipment is going to be running a 64 bit OS so it will have to be addressed at some point, but I'm dead in the water in the meantime.

now i need to ask u a q.... wht is different bout the x64 pro?
  • Or even better stick with Windows 2000 and be toruble free for the rest of your computer life.
  • What chip are you using the pentium d or athlon 3500 or above.

I know the pentium can be power down 2 regular as aposed to 64

Athlons the 3500 series and up are supost to suport everything from 34 bit world to 64 bit world?

This post I am sure some one can answer this question. Also I have called digitech and can be pretty helpful.
  • Well thanks for the replies guys, I'll answer some of your questions, but first let me clarify a couple of things. I have 3 other computers running 32 bit Windows, I am an early adopter and enjoy being on the forefront. None of the problems I encounter are insurmountable, I'm just looking for some help along the way. To me this stuff is good fun. As far as the differences between 32 and 64 bit OS's, that's too indepth a discussion for this board but the primary advantages are in the way memory is addressed and accessed. To nutshell it in terms that make sense to musicians, the amount of headroom gained is phenomenal. As far as my chip being able to support 32 bit apps, it does completely. All of the apps that I've installed so far are 32 bit, as there are hardly any 64 bit apps available yet. Everything runs very well, the only problem is that some hardware drivers (in this particular case, the GNX USB drivers) are not compatible. I have contacted DigiTech support regarding the issue and according to the response I got they \"are not planning to support Windows x64\". I fully expect this to change, but I am not that patient so I will be looking for my own solution in the meantime.
  • Hi !
Same problem here : I bought a windows xp pro 64, to take advantage of my new Athlon X2 3800+.
I especially bought the GNX3000 because it was also a soundcard.
But the bundled drivers don't work.
Someone @ the Digitech support assured me the WDM drivers would work and the ASIO for 64bit was under development...
Well neither the WDM nor the ASIO install...

I have win xp pro 64 SP2, .NET framework 1.1, I got all microsoft patches so my OS is up to date.

    Anyone got a solution ?

    Thanks a lot :)
  • OK, I got some good news !

    Seems to finally work :)

I emailed Digitech support to ask some more info.

    They told me :
Connect the GNX3000 to your computer via USB, Go to control panel, system, device manager, click the plus button next to sound video and game controllers. Verify Digitech USB audio device, you should find three USB audio devices associated with the GNX3000 right click and uninstall all three, be careful you only uninstall USB audio devices associated with the GNX3000, Call if you are not sure 801-568-7593. Now disconnect the USB cable from the GNX3000 and perform a factory reset on the GNX3000, the procedure is in the manual. Reconnect the GNX3000 wait until all pop up windows are completed the last one will say your new hardware is installed and ready to use, after you see this message put the software disk in and it will run.
Also verify you have service pac2 installed and .net framework WIN XP

I didn't have to reset, I tried, I didn't want to lose some presets, it worked !
For the rest, I followed the procedure written around page 109.

I should look for some info on how to tweak to decrease latency, but the ASIO4ALL ASIO driver works with the GNX3000 !!!
  • Well, I am glad they offered up some form of a solution. It looks like a software work-around. I'm sure that they are going to drop some true 64 bit drivers soon. Other wise people would buy another brand pedal that is offering the drivers.

Now, you said you are running 32 bit software and it works fine but not the usb. That is because software is different from hardware. You can run 16 bit software on a 64bit chip. Hardware has to have drivers they are the same bit depth as the operating system (or atlest that's what the OS developers told me). You can install win XP 32 and run the drivers you have, but then you are really running a 3500 32 bit chip because windows can not access the other 32 bits of the chip.

yes, I know, I am a computer geek. Any how, it shouldn't take them very long to write the drivers. However you may be stuck until the demand for the drivers increases. Good Luck.

Side note for you. The PowerMac G5's are 64 bit and they are supported.
