Comments

  • Gibson? PRS? Mostly, prices used to speak for quality, unfortunately...
  • I've heard Ibanez makes pretty reliable stuff....hard to kill axes ;)
  • well i own an epiphone sg (g400 series).. i'm very pleased with the way it sounds...but i had a few problems with the switch....

and nowadays it's so hard to decide which is best becoz of the mass productions and stuff....

i mean if i m not mistaken fender is being manufactured by Cort !!!!
and these Cort guitars i never heard of them and suddenly they conquered the market

a retailer said to me that fender is not as reliable as it was before, they r easily broken and even the fender usa... is bein put together by china or korea or mexico....same thing for the ibanez... now i dunno bout other brands, but i used to dream of gettin me an ibanez or a strat,but..euh...i'm lost now! price really is not a quality proof ne-more
  • No way there is one brand that will conquer all the others. Even if there was would you buy it if you didnt like it?

Fender owns Jackson now. That I know.
  • i meant by \"conquer the market\" : getting all it's products in the stores, in much more higher numbers than the other brands ...and not taking over another company...lol sure not

but i've been told by a guitar repaiman that all of the new fenders r manufactured by the cort corporation.... i dunno if he is tellin me the truth though
  • I persoanly like Carvin. They are in CA and make custom built guitars. I have 2 of them and think they are great. Saving for #3 right now. I have been very happy with their gear. JMO
  • i live outside of us... and never heared of carvins....i heared of \"pv\" my friend got one for like 3000$ and it's extremly well made but carvins? do they have a market outside us? and what about the price range
  • iced, here is a link to the Carvin site. http://www.carvin.com/products/guitars.php?CID=GTR Most of the guitars run $900 - $1500 depending on what level of worki you want done is how much $$$ you will spend. Quality is great and you get a custom built guitar that others cannot touch for the $$.
  • I like F hole archtops. In fact I'm a nut for F hole archtops. The old Johnny Smith model from Gibson if you can find one for about 10k is an awesome ax. It has been replaced in the Gibson line up by the Le Grande. for about 10k. Another awesome guitar. An original D'Aquisto New Yorker for about 50K is in my opinion the ultimate. I have played one and it was unbeleivable, but unfortunately, WAY out of my price range.

I own a blonde ES175 and am currently saving my pennies for a Le Grande or a L5 CES. The L5 goes for about $7500.

    See Ya,
    Tal
  • hey Tal, I had one of these when i was a kid but didn't know enough about them to appreciate it for what it was. http://www.hagstromcanada.com/jimmy/
These were designed by D' Aquisto for Hagstrom and also came in an F hole config. James was also commisioned to design some archtops for Fender. I bought one of those a few years back but was not anywhere as happy with it as i was the Hagstrom. They are not as much as the Jimi originals but are comanding in the price range of $1500 to $3000
  • Iced,

Along with a Les Paul, Strat, and Charvel, I also have an Epi Les Paul that is my workhorse. It's the one that's next to the computer desk, and I don't care if it falls.8) The switch thing is a known problem with Epiphones. Just go to your local music store, and buy a real Les Paul switch. That's what I did, and it works great!!!!

The only thing you should know is that the wiring is different in the Gibson swtich. You simply have to go to Gibson's site for the schematics for the real LP switch.

    You wont be disappointed.

  • To me the ultimate guitar for me to play would be a Gretsch, White Falcon. Yep that's the one that really gets me excited.
  • Want to see another $100,000 guitar? Check out this website and then go to then check out the Zeidler project link. Absolutely gorgeous guitar and ABSOLUTELY out of my price range. While you're there you may as well check out Gibson Johnny Smith that I just go crazy looking at. Am trying to convince my wife that I just need one more guitar. You know how that goes.

Enjoy the pictures while I keep dreaming.

Also to Mike B. Yeah, that White Falcon is a killer. The gretsch I would love to have is the 6120. That funky branded G and the Cactus and barbwire fret markers are awesome. Plus, just like the White Falcon, it is true Rockabilly stuff. You can view one at the following link.

    To D.Alexander.

The D'Aquisto designed Hagstrom is indeed a very mellow jazzy guitar. You should'nt have let that one get away from you. I had a buddy who worked in the D'Aquisto shop in the 70's for about 5 years. He didn't make much money but when he got back to Texas he had a pair of the nicest New Yorkers you ever saw. D'Aquisto was one hell of a Luthier.

    See Ya,
    Tal
  • Tal, I'll be glad to keep your 175 while you talk to your wife about a new guitar. Shoot, I'll even drive down to Houston, I have a couple of cousins I could visit with too..
  • Thanks for the offer Mike but I guess I'll hold on to it. :D

thnx man!! u just costed me bout 100 bucks!
but hey it's workin now
  • ESP EC400 series are pretty sweet.
  • what r the specs of teh 400's
  • Agile from rondomusic.com! Great return policy. Guitars in their upper price range are comparable to Epis. Fanatics claim good as Gibsons! Korean made. I have one (P90 Harm 1) and it's the best $300 I ever spent on a guitar.
  • I have small hands and I have found I like the feel and balance of the Yamaha guitars. Their necks are stable and the wires are ok... sometimes they need alittle dress to get them perfect. I also change out the pickups... though the ones that came on my AES500 were marginal. I bought a Pacifica for $75 bucks on the bay... changed the pickups(used), graphtech saddles(new) and put a set locking tuners(used) for around $150. Now have a nice little gigging axe that I mounted a Roland pickup on for my GR20.. and didn't have to worry about screwin' up an expensive axe. Also got my 500 for a steal for $100 bucks...had an ole' DP150 humbucker that I threw in and slipped on a AVT wrap around bridge for $75... it's a pretty cool retro looking axe that sounds pretty darn good. Everyone always asks me about it.. nice little conversation piece. My only advice is find what you feel comfortable playing and don't let the hype sway you. Also consider the type of music you play or maybe will in the future... you can never really ever go wrong with a guitar with a H/S/H config... good all around tones for lotsa stuff. Keep rockin.... : :D p.s. 1200 sandpaper gets rid of that sticky feeling on the back of the necks of some asian guitars.. they don't use the hardest clearcoats out there...lol.

Here is a link for Agile's top LP copy. It looks better than an Epiphone to me. I have an Agile strat copy ($230), and the fretwork and finish are flawless. I wouldn't be surprised if many of their guitars had Gibson quality.

  • For me,It's a firengine red, 8) quilted maple top 8) PRS with gold hardware.Oh man,I get all fired up just thinkin about it,Yummm.

PS,I can't see a company like Cort buying Fender out, maybe the other way around, come to think of it,I played a new Fender Squire, not to long ago that had similar look to a Cort.IMHO USA Strats are still built top notch. Some of the Mexie Strats are'nt too bad either, with alittle tweeking here and there,I think a guy(or gal)could have a very player friendly axe.
  • I have Gibsons, Epi's, and a Strat. All are awesome but none compare to the Gibsons. The Epi's are remarkably similar to the Gibsons.

My Epi Les Pauls get more play time than any of them.
  • Blade guitars, by Gary Levinson.
  • I think it depends on alot of things. On some of the posts I don't see how anyone could think that those are the \"best guitars\". Just like the posters can't see how anyone can NOT think they are the \"best guitars\".

How about go to a guitar store and play them all and determine which one \"feels better\".

I think this was discussed along time ago in the other board, where I came up with the idea of blind folding yourself and having someone hand you guitars and make your decision based on feel.

Maybe if your stuck deciding between two or three then you could take the blindfold off and throw in the \"Look Cool\" factor.

Below is a link to google where I typed in the search bar - Choosing a guitar - I think there is alot of unbiased information here.

    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2003-33,GGLD:en&q=choosing+a+guitar

    good luck
  • I think there are some pretty good guitars coming out of Korea these days, but I don't think I'd confuse any of them with the \"ultimate...in terms of quality, reliability, and endurance\".
