  • sounds really cool....different, but i like it. The sound levels were too high though.. alot of crackling through the speakers.

 crackling haha must be my cheap speakers. Are you using the infamous Behringer Truths? It was only done with a RP200A too, none of this fancy GNX stuff.
  • hi duderman!
all i can say is AWSOME and very well done! was wonderin' if you had the complete songs as your posts on the other forum stopped short...you and your friend are very talented! fuel kicked butt! :D look forward to your future covers! me and a friend of mine plan on posting our metallica covers in the near future and hope they turn out as nice as yours  can't wait to hear your ride the lightning! metallica rules!!!!!!

  • I've learned alot through doing these covers. each one gets better than the last. You should hear my first cover \"the unforgiven\" and ironically my latest cover \"the unforgiven\" (i had to redo it since the first was so bad). there is a huge difference there. I didn't even bother posting the old unforgiven on here although it can still be found on the digitech site... it was my very first entry to the site.
  • I've always been fond of Creeping Death. Too fast for me though...
  • creeping death man... I LOVE that song. and I can do the solo but not clean enough yet that I feel comfortable recording it. Creeping death pumps me up when playing guitar... very powerful.
  • Oh yeah, the kinda stuff that makes me want to break furniture.

And ironically, its the song that made my interest in Metallica drop extremely.

Now I'm not going to go into the whole \"Load\", \"Re-Load\" thing where all old school Metallica fans start bitching because the band took a different direction.

I had just bought \"Cunning Stunts\" on DVD. I was working at my old home theater sales job. I had hid in the biggest theater room in the store and popped it in. I skipped \"So What\" just in case any customers came in. Next up was \"Creeping Death\". This is one of the most destructive songs in metal in my opinion. And I was about to hear it at a unrecommended volume level where your hearing is concerned. I started the track and was blown away at the power the band had. Sure I'd seen them play this before live but it had been a while.

Where it all \"jumped the shark\" for me was Jame's singing. In my humble opinion Creeping Death needs to be sung a certain way. The way its been sung up until I heard this DVD. He ruined it. I understood the new stuff. I kind of liked most of it. Not as much as the prior 6 albums but it was still Metallica goodness.

To hear James's \"new voice\" destroying powerful tracks like Creeping Death and others, made me realize that they would never sound the same again. Maybe he did it because his voice wouldnt hold out forever singing the old way. Maybe they wanted to change the bands sound vocally. I dont know. But I miss the old Hetfield on the mic.

Just think of the old way the following lurics were growled out.

\"Blood will follow blood, dying time is here..... DAMAGE INCORPORATED!\"

Now think of the new Hetfield. About 1/2 an octave higher, and throwing \"Baby!\" on the end of that line.

    Again, JMHO.
  • i hate to say it but agreed. I'm still a die hard fan but it does bug me sometimes. I understand what you mean... it isn't the same. Nut times have changed... james threw out his voice during the recording of the black album... it's been different ever since. is it bad now? no.. but it really doesn't fit some of the older songs like you were saying. Also the newest \"sober\" hetfield is the worst. I mean I like the fact he went through all he did to correct himself but for his image... it doesn't work. He's not as badass as he once was. but of course he's a family man now and as life goes on you take on newer responsibilities. I will always respect hetfield for everything he has done in his career but I do agree with your points made and have said it myself in the past.
  • *Raises a frosty mug to Duderman*

    Cheers.

To Metallica in all its forms.

    HUZZAH!
  • Awe come on. You gotta explain.
  • oh i'm not mad about it or anything...it's just that i hold jaymz in very high esteem and you can't expect the guy not to age and slow down over time...was really just making a joke of your posts :)
  • Oh yeah?

    James is a pud.

    Haha. Joking of course.

I hear ya. And I understand what he needed to do. We were just pointing out that it DID change their sound. And it did take some of the \"umph\" out of those classic heavy songs.
  • Testament are better than Metallica \\m/
  • lol jer  sadly, i too must agree with what you and duderman are sayin'...jaymz is missing that \"umph\" he used to have in his voice... wish he still had it cos i miss it as well
  • it it goes the same the other way, I wouldn't want to hear a 20 year old hetfield try to sing the outlaw torn or low man's lyric (which i personally enjoy even though i know alot of fans hate it)
  • Very true Duderman. Good point.

I like Testament. But they have a number of songs that I couldnt even tell you the names of. So much of their stuff has no character.

Whats your favorite Tetament album aRcTurUs?
  • If I did a cover I would like to do.... this is a tough one...I would say
\" Master Of Puppets\" I have a soft spot for that song. Another choice would be \"Trapped under Ice\" .
As far as Testament goes I think think Alex Skolnick Rocks ! His solos were so good.... Just listen to \"Electric Crown\" or \"Return to Serenity\" Just awesome guitar work.

  • I agree. Skolnick is a great player. Have you heard anything of his besides Testament? He played with Savatage on \"Handful of Rain\" GREAT ALBUM! Not nearly as heavy of course but very good guitar stuff.

I saw his solo band \"Exhibit A\" once a long time ago. They were good. Now I hear he's into jazz. I'd like to hear that.
  • No I have not heard his other stuff but thanks for letting me know I would love to hear it. Jazz now huh ....I would also like to hear that...and tell me how was he live ? Later , Mailman T
  • Quite good. Very faithful to his recorded stuff.

I have seen him twice with Testament. Both times on the Souls of Black tour. And then once with Exhibit A and once with Savatage.

Great musician. He studied under Satriani for a while.

That would be Practice What You Preach, the PERFECT album. Though lately ive been getting into my death metal a bit more so from The Gathering has been on my playlist for a while now.

Man you are very lucky to have seen them then \\m/ that would be a life experience man.

I got all of the Alex Skolnick Trio albums though they are pretty ghey, just jazzy covers of metal songs haha. Though good to listen to if your doing some study or stuff like that. BUu give me thrash Skolnick any day his solos totally blow anyone away.
  • The Gathering is a brutal album. Once Skolnick left they sure did get heavier.

I saw Testament play at the Metal Gods 2003 show in Chicago. Eric Petersons guitar rig kept failing. They actually had to stop playing and find a new amp head to use. CHuck Billy used the time to smoke a joint on stage that someone threw him from the balcony.

    It was hilarious.

    Whats your favorite Skolnick solo?
  • Return To Serenity definitely, that solo has the most feel in any solo ive ever heard plus it is incredibly fast what he plays. Other wicked solos he does are in Souls Of Black, The Legacy, The Ballad, Electric Crown and Practice What You Preach. They are all the famous songs, but they are the ones with the ultimate solos \\m/

Hail Alex Skolnick as my fav guitarist and hail Testament as my fav band \\m/
  • One of my faves is Apocalyptic City from \"The Legacy\". The sweep picking arpeggios he pulls off in that are unbelievable.
  • Man I can not do Hetfield style vocals!!!! This stuff is ready to GO!! I am gonna do Slither with Jer next,,,,Now I have may 4 songs entered in the contest. I have tryed doing metalica before and I just suck at trying to get close to his voice. Or I would sing on it. I hope you find a good vocalist to do these songs with you, because they are very good.
  • Anyone here heard Jim Breuer do his Brian Johnson / James Hetfield impressions?
  • I see everyone has good taste in music here HAHA....so let me ask do you like Children of Boden ?? That Guitar player is AWESOME!!! I just was turned onto them from a friend GOOD STUFF!!
