Jamman immediate overdub?

Hi folks,
I've been using a stereo Jamman in my acoustic trio for years, and I have a need to record a loop and then immediately loop over it. Usually I record a loop and then solo over it, but now I have a need to layer parts without waiting for the loop to play and come back around for me to hit "overdub" again. Think of the beginning of The Scorpions' "Still Loving You" where there is a beginning guitar segment that repeats a second time with a second guitar part added (actually, that's the exact song I need it for lol). I don't see anywhere that shows how to do this in the manual.

Thanks,
Jeff

  • Hi, have you found an answer? I use a Jamman Solo XT and it is in Record-Play-Dub mode by default, but you can switch it to Record-Dub-Play mode in which it behaves as you describe. It sounds like you're using a Jamman Stereo. Does it have a Record-Dub-Play mode?

No, I have not found an answer yet (at least not one I like lol). I did see that the Solo XT has that capability, but it appears that functionality came out after the Jamman Stereo release so it doesn't have it :(

For the Solo XT, in R-D-P or R-P-D mode, will it continue to Dub and re-Dub over the recorded sequence until you hit the pedal again? For example, with my Jamman Stereo, when I play the end of Ramblin' Man (linked below) I will Record the first 4 measures of the repeating "Lord I was born a Ramblin' Man" vocal part, let it loop through the end of the vocal part, then I will hit dub and sequentially layer each of the 4 guitar harmony parts over the sequence each time it comes back around and auto-dubs again. Then I hit play at the end to repeat that layered sequence and play the ending guitar solo over it.

(Skip to 2:16 if this doesn't start there)

  • Yes! It does that. You can do all the overdubbing you want in one overdub phase. Seamlessly.
I like to fade in a note or chord, let it go all the way around, then fade it out again. Seamless, circular drone.

Nice. I've been looking at getting a Solo XT for open mics so I don't have to pull the Jamman Stereo off my gig pedalboard, and it fits easily in my gig bag. It looks like it does pretty much everything the Stereo does and more (including stereo in/out). It just doesn't have the mic input (which I never use) or the additional Stop, Up and Down buttons, but the FS3X footswitch can be added for that. I actually do all my loops live, no pre-recording, so I don't really need even the up/down buttons, but the single button stop (like the Stereo has) seems a bit easier than the Solo XT double press to stop. Although maybe I could even get used to that.
