DNX compressor

Hello

I’m brand new to the forum, and would like to ask a simple question. The side chain jacks on the back of my compressor, are they used as an insert point ( send and return ) from the back of my mixer. ( main inserts ) or do I need to use the L/R inputs and outputs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
