Sub woofer coupling

Is there a rule for distance apart subwoofers can be and still acoustically couple? I have two QSC KSubs (dual 12" subs) and would like to place them 4 inches apart. Will they still acoustically couple?

I don't think it will hurt, but if I could I would put them together. If I may, why do you want to put them 4" apart? Pole socket use, perhaps?

I am using Atomic CLR tops and they are too wide to go on the speaker poles if the subs are together.
