outboard equipt. connection order

Hi all, Bruce here. I'm new to these forums. My church has dBx 1046 compressors and also Rane 1/3 octave EQs for vocals. My question is when making the insert loop from the mixer, does the connection order matter? It's currently going from the console to the compressor, then the EQ, then back to the console. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I can see pros and cons either way; ie: going first through the compressor or first through the EQ.

    As you have sussed either way, but compressing things you later eq out would be one con to the way it's hooked up...Some compressors have side chains for EQ"s that allow for just that.
