  • The point here is to get as flat a response as possible. If the mic has aberrations they will show up in the resultant sound.. As in if there is a 1.5 dB negative peak @ 31.5hz there will be a corresponding adoration in the produce curve of the auto eq pass...

Use the best mic you have, but don't fall into the old pit of placing the mic on a stand in between the speakers. Do one side only, strait out from the speakers about 20-25' mic on the floor on a towel or some other non reflective surface, or better yet outdoors away from all reflective surfaces.. to achieve a flat response.. and store that, THEN you can do the same in a room and see what the room is doing. Then first through creative speaker placement and aiming to get the energy on the people and off the reflective surfaces.. do you try and minimize the room effects..

  • the mic i have is a RTA Mic looks like the DBX mic and is supposed to be flat like the DBX mic and to be truthful if i went and bought this mic it would probably be more expensive than the DBX mic

i guess the main question is is there much difference in one respected RTA Mic and another one if they are both of the same price range
  • Nope, only as I said the cheaper mics usually have issues the lower you go and the higher you go, and those aberrations will show up in the resultant auto eq products will reflect those differences, be they above or below the flat response line...
