Crash Course

edited September 2007 in PA General Discussion
Great forum! Thanx for sharing the knowledge. I put a system together for small and medium rooms for a side project where I'll be playing and providing sound. Bought a separate DBX crossover, dual 31 band EQ, and compressor for lead vocal and gate for kick drum.
Mains JBL JRX125's 500 watts rms at 4 ohms powered by QSC 2450 750 watts to each in stereo.
Subs Peavey PV118's 400 watts program at 8 ohms powered by QSC 1850 380 watts rms to each stereo.
Carvin 1644 mixer
When researhing speakers civilian reviews on internet stores and an educated review on HC about the JBL's touted these speakers as great sounding unbelievable for the price quality, then on the pro forums they're considered junk. I'll have my own opinion this weekend.

OK, so I need to get the best sound I can ASAP, never heard about the Driverack til recently but it looks like a real time saver, eliminate all the trial and error of separate components. Bought DRPA and RTA mic with the impression I'll follow the wizard (my amps and speakers are in updated firmware) auto EQ, AFS etc. I have no place to set up the system except the venue so I can't get to the point where it will tell me if the wizard will:
1) Auto program the crossover points and settings?
2) Autp program the limiters?
and
3)Don't want to use a compressor across everything, guess not a problem to use mine inserted as mentioned above?
4) Guess I should follow manual gain structure procedure and the amp setting suggestions of 37 and 39 are meaningless)?
6) Bought this as a plug and play solution but now reading here that there's a steep learning curve?(I have taught myself basics quickly and of course realize have alot to learn).
The main band I'm in has sound provided, so this will be an adventure. Thanks in advance for answers and input!
