Connecting relay's to an axcent3.

huubhuubhuubhuub Junior Member
Hello,

I was wondering how I can best connect a relay to a relay port on a axcent3.
It is easy, but I just wan't to be sure and safe.

Is this best done by switching the + or is it better to switch the ground (-).
The relay ports are 24V, but in my opinion it is better to switch with the ground in case there goes something wrong. To prevent damage to the axcent3 system.

I've got some diagrams added for any explanations.
Don't look at the size of the relay:).

Thanks on forehand.

My advice is to switch the positive. I spent many hours troubleshooting a system that was operating on a switched ground device that wasn't working, and it turned out that's its trigger shared ground with its audio input. Since the chassis of the audio source and the NetLinx where linked by the rack it was installed in, the ground was complete whether my relay output was closed or not, so the thing was always triggered.

Since you can often not be sure about how grounds are handled inside a device, you can also sometimes not be sure whether switching the ground actually switches anything or not.

    Thanks for your quick response.

So I connect the +24V on the A (common)?
When I activated relay 1 (in this case) it puts +24V on B (output)?

This will also work with 12V and a 12V relay?

    Greetings

The specs you see for the relays are maximums. The Axcent3 relays will handle up to 750 mA at up to 28VAC, 24VDC.

So if your load draws 750 mA or less, it doesn't matter if it's 1 volt or 24 volts - you can run it through the relay no problem.
