Write protect a program on a master?

I have a master that I do not have the source code (or compiled code for). Is there anyway that I can lock that code on to the master so that it cannot be overwritten? I know I can password protect the access to the master, however I still need to monitor some of the strings on that system, and that's 1 step away from accidentally overwriting.
