RMS and SQL

Would it be possible to have a configuration wherein RMS and SQL are running on different servers?

I have done this in one installation. It was a couple of years ago and I don't remember all of the details, but it was relatively painless. Part of the setup process asks for the location to create the database. I just pointed it to the SQL server.

Yep. It's nice and straight forward - during the RMS server setup you'll be asked for a server address as part of the DB config, point it to the SQL server along with the appropriate auth info and that's it.
