Info on VA modules

I have used VA 1.2 to create and upload files to the controller and panel for the control of a UDM1604. That all went fine except the default pages for the UDM don't make sense to me and don't seem to work. e.g. pressing the power button does not toggle power on the UDM. Also what do the channel up/down buttons control, exactly?

Without analysing code in NS2, how would one know how to use the pages?

I would assume that there is information somewhere on the general usage which would help diagnose the problems encountered. FYI I am using the TCP/IP duet module downloade today, NXT-CV15, NI-2100/ICS, Hilights template (VA) - latest firmware on all above mentioned devices.
