Trouble with an AXD-CP4

Greetings,
I have an AXD-CP4 on which the touch is not working propoerly. Even after recalibration, I cannot get the buttons to respond to the exact placement of touches. It seems that toward the center of the panel, reponses are in the right place, but you have to push above the buttons to the left side of the screen and below the buttons on the right.
I have tried numerous recalibrations as well as trying to touch the crosshairs off-center to compensate for the errors. I have not been able to get it right. I also tried reinstalling firmware to no avail.
Does anyone know of anything besides a bad touch overlay that could be causing the symptoms I described?

The panel is not installed and I have removed the bezel. Still same symptom.
I'm hoping to not have to send it in. $$$$
