"EXTERNAL_CONTROL" keyword

Does anyone know what the keyword "EXTERNAL_CONTROL" does in NetLinx Studio? I haven't found any information about that keyword through the normal help searches in studio. Also, no tech notes have mentioned it. Has anyone used it before?

of a processor from external means.
