Sony MCS-8M control by RS232

Hi,
Sony MCS-8M Multi Format Compact Switcher must be programmed onsite, has anyone experience with this product to control it by RS232?
I need to do input/crosspoint switching and wipe control to create a kind of PIP (Picture in Picture).
More than 4 inputs will be used, so using GPI port is not a option.
Any hints or help is welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Looks like a pretty straight-forward protocol. Shouldn't be too bad.
