Just adopted GNX4 #3!

Another beaut! Looks brand new, even the manual feels like it's never been open!!!

Plugged it in...UGH...original presets, that won't do...let's get some mfxsupermodels in there....ahhhh...the Hiwatt...lovely!!!!

This combination is all you ever need and this is coming from a guy that always likes to have the best. Those who are getting rid of these units are crazy, IMNSHO!

I do love my Guitar Rig, Amplitube, etc., and I am currently building a rugged, all solid-state rack-mount PC for live use of VSTs, etc.

Axe FX? Kemper? These guys are just con-ing the gullible musician, just another case of the Emperor's New Clothes (same as hand wired amps..LOL)! These are just expensive dongles so the modelling is pirate-proof.

Modelling algorithms are VERY floating-point math intensive...the more GFLOPS (billions of floating point operations/second), the better.
The two TigerSharc DSP chips in the FX II can only muster a fraction of the GFLOPS of even an i3 processor. The users can easily bring those machines to their knees.

A LOT of BS in this industry!

Cheers!

  • cpu's are quite a step in another direction compared to DSP Ic's.

Most if not all units have consistently worked and battled to get the cabs right. You need plenty of horsepower to do long impulses which are the soul of cab models. Even the high end gear is somewhat limited in that capacity.

Sure but GigaFLOPS are GigaFLOPS. I know the creator of the Axe FX and his followers would have us believe that the DSPs are doing something magical and mystical but it's nothing but hype.

POD and GNX also use DSPs, no? In the case of Digitech, I believe they are ASICs.(?)

On my old, puny Core2 Duo, I can load-up many instances of GR5 with IRs along with instances of Amplitube2 and the CPU hardly breaks a sweat.
