HELP!! My GNX4's tuner keeps spazzing out!

Hello all,
I bought a new GNX4 a couple years ago and it has been flawless up until yesterday when I needed to use the built in tuner to do some intonation work both the green tuner and red string displays started jumping all over the place like it was having a spaz attack. So I checked and tried obvious things like using different cables, electrical outlets, different guitars, disconnecting my headphones, removing the cf card and I even did a couple factory resets and still no luck. I called Digitech and the technician said he never heard of that happening. So I'm at a loss and am hoping someone here can help me. I really like my GNX4 and I take great care of it and I only use it once in a great while for recording or practicing. I'm hoping it is something simple and not something that is going to cost me a bunch of money to have fixed.

Thanks,
Shawn

  • Message Mike - I think his name here is guitar3456 - he's about the the smartest guy to ever pick up a gitr, and knows a helluva lot about the GNX....good luck...
  • Not sure if this was the same person in the op that emailed me but the solution was related to weak batteries in the guitar.

Tuner Sensitivity- best to tune in neck pu mode. I do not recommend the GNX tuner for setting intonation.

Agreed. The tuner in the GNX is strictly for convenience only, not for spot-on accuracy like intonation work.
  • I typically use the neck pu mode regardless of tuner being used. Some guitars I even drop the volume level to make them more stable.
  • Hello all and thanks for the replies.
I had an unfortunate mishap with my GNX4 so I had to send it out for repair and I am having the tuner checked out as well. I'll post an update once I get it back.

  • Hello all,
Good news. I just got my GNX4 back from Digitech and she's like new again and the tuner works like a charm. 8)
Turns out the tuner problem was caused by a switch issue so they replaced all of the foot switches, the Amp Level / Preset Level encoder pot (which I accidentally broke :?) and they checked everything out for a clean bill of health.
The repair cost me $85.00 but it was worth every penny as Digitech's service is freakin awesome! I sent my GNX4 out on the 2nd of this month, but due to the recent winter storms in Indiana, UPS couldn't deliver it to them until Thursday the 9th but the service dpt. was closed until the 10th. So I called them on Monday morning to make sure it got to them safely and they said it was already repaired and shipped out and it got here today shortly after 1:00pm.
    Thanks Digitech, you guys rock!

  • Good to know they still service the old box... I've been lucky with mine working all these years with no real issues. Came back here for a look after years away.. looks empty...
