GNX4 vs digital amp distortion issues
I've had a GNX4 for years, great, love it.
I recently attempted to update my amp and have gone through at least two already that are totally imcompatable with the GNX4. The amps sound fine on their own, but as soon as I run the signal through the GNX they have insane levels of distortion to the point of electronic noise. Totally unuseable. This has occured on two digital amps (Line 6 Spider IV and another I'm forgetting at present) but the result was obvious, the second the GNX is connected it distorts to hell and completely obliterates the preset tone, even on the clean amp channel.
I'm still using a little 15 W analogue amp from 25 years ago as it's the only one that's worked for me.
I'm assuming it's some digital amp vs digital effects clash going on.
Any suggestions? Anyone else have this problem?
It seems crazy in this day and age that I can't get a digital/solid state amp to work with digital effects processor and not sound like sonic nightmare.
My entire library of tones is locked up to the GNX 4, by I'm reduced to playing a crappy old amp as anything new just ruins the sound.
Please help!

I don't think you have to. I think you will be able to get your signal from the GNX to work in a modern amp; the fact that this has happened to you twice now, on two different amps, is an indicator to me that the problem is NOT the amp or type of amp, but something in your GNX: output levels, speaker compensation button (\"on\" ALWAYS!!!), or something to do with your individual patches, or something along those lines.
I also think it'd be reasonable to imagine that the sounds you've been putting into an older amp might not work as well going into a significantly different type amp, so either your individual patches or the overall sound will need to be adapted to the new gear...
Of course, the simplest solution is for me to come over and straighten out your sound, which I'll gladly do in exchange for Shania's cellphone number... :P
Also, as mentioned, if using the GNX4 as your effects, then your guitar amp is best set on Clean.
FWIW, I dumped my guitar amp and just jack straight into the PA system. The GNX4 puts out a signal with full frequency response 20-20,000 Hz, whereas most guitar amps have a very narrow range of frequencies they are designed to output. This is what gives a Marshall stack or a Twin Reverb their particular sound. I found I got a much better sound from my GNX4 using the PA system. I also use a small stage amp when playing live, just as my personal monitor on stage. But almost all my sound is out front on the big PA speakers. Best wishes.
