still dig my GNX4
What's up all. Last 3 or 4 months just been going thru a Crate GLX 2x12 for ease of transportation and no tube woes. Though the DPS modes are adequate for the simple jam sessions, I continued to use it at home. Just to reacquaint myself with it. Until a few months back it hasn't been plugged in for several yrs. And this isn't no slam on that Crate! But my ears weren't happy.
So I blew the dust off the GNX, jack it into the back of that Crate...
happy ears once again! So I am going to stop being lazy and start lugging one more piece of gear with me.
Was gonna post this under that kemper thread but didn't want to hijack it.
But seriously folks, for what the GNX4 is and its cost even back then, has to be one of the best investments I've made in gear aquisitions..
And here it is once again .. the useless whiney plea .... Digitech an updated version.. or reissue.. screw the usb and constant computer update stuff ..
Just give us an awsome pedal board again! Apple ain't the end all be all in this world! Argh! gonna force me to start collecting analog boxes again!

Anyone got anytime with the Rp 1000? Better than the GNX as far as modeling and effects go? LoL I only ask cuz it's been so long since I been in an actual brick an morter gear shop, I can't remember the last time.
Ya I hear ya's .. stop asking others and get off my duff an check it out for mydelf!
I actually went and purchased another GNX4 in mint shape offa ebay, so that if mine ever bites the dust, I got another one to use. Going on ten years old, it's still my favorite piece o gear. 8)
ha ha ha preach it brother shredd! the choir will use a vocalist to sing the praises!
Them new fangled machines won't replace my horse an buggy!
My GNX sounds great, I know it inside n out, I can tweak anything off the top of my head, the learning curve is past. I guess if I were trying to be a cutting edge rock star and break new sonic ground every day, I'd be out there playing with every toy, stomp, whatever, that came down the pike. But I don't want to...I just wanna PLAY. So my trusty GNX stays with me, performing it's magic as well as the day it was built!!! 8)
 Your not :?: Man.... I thought stardom and fame = chicks! Was why we did this, for go cutting the grass, washing the vehicle etc. Just so we could spend endless hrs in the woodshed, torturing fingers. In the hopes that the carrot called superstar that satan holds out in front us, would be ours.
I don't think it's to late, put a project together and hit the road touring the nursing home circuit. I'm positive alot of aged 50's & 60's rockers would still love to dig a live show! (although they may not be afterwards)
I guess it won't surprise anyone that even at my \"advanced age\", I'm still out every week doing open mic, in hopes of inspiring drunken bar wenches to succumb to the adoration of my stirring renditions of Wish You Were Here and such. Maybe I should learn some Lady GagMe tunes???
Oh yeah, really dig the GNX4 jacked into my home stereo PA system and play some of those cool stereo effects on guitar, along with backing track, or drum machine. So many options, so many memories, so much disappointment with Digitech for dropping the workstation concept.
But I acquired an RP255 in a trade and gave it to my son.
I wanted to play around with it so I started editing it, and making a sound,
within 5-10 minutes I had really good sound. plus it has the USB ASIO sound.
So if the RP500/1000 sounds better then I am thinking about getting one,
I use a Firewire interface now, so the USB stuff is not important to me anymore, USB is to iffy, it shares it's bus with other peripherals, and gives to many errors.
I'm even thinking about the GSP1101, Can't wait to see what is next,
I just hope this apple goes rotten, I'm about sick of iShit
And it's just my opinion, but it sounds terrible. I can't get any quality sounds out of it. The RP155 sounds like lindsy lohan behind the wheel at 3AM, and my GNX sounds like Jennifer Lawrence giving me a whipped cream massage.
Still hangin' in there. A few solo gigs, and some light jazz gigs. Played with a 24 piece big band for a couple of years but giving it a rest this year. just toooo much. The little recording I do nowadays is with a web cam and just post a few vids. No more multitracking on the GNX and getting a lousy mix at the end...(I suck at mixing
Never did much effects anyway, and my basic rig nowadays is my L5 and acoustic image corus.
Just thought I'd drop by and am very sorry to see this place go to what it has become. I'm with you guys...They ought to come out with a new product. How cool would that be if it had all the features of the GNX and video capabilites as well?
It'll never happen, but one can dream.
Keep it cool fellas. 8)

Yeah, it's a shame that the Cult Of The GNX is now a bunch of old-school weenies like me who have embraced the GNX as a key piece of gear...I guess the problem is it's size - it competes for space with my Commodore 64 and my abacus. :P
But I still love it for it's features and utility - I love being able to set up sounds for recall, and even put them in the order I'll use them in a show; to customize patches so perfectly; to be able to NAME them instead of just having them in a numbered sequence; use MP3's for backup; stuff like that.
Anyway...thanks for stoppin' by!!!
I was using a POD XTL between the GNX2 days and the RP1000.
What I'm giving up (GNX2-->RP1000):
(1) GNX hypermodeling
(2) PickUp modeling
(3) MIDI
(4) Very deep efx editing via Gen-Edit
What I gained:
(1) Better amp models
(2) More useful global settings
(3) 4-Cable method (Amazingly flexible connectivety)
(4) Higher line output
(5) No worries about disabling the unit with accidents to the back-panel volume pot
(6) Bank naming
(7) True bypass for amp/efx loop operations
Of course, the GNX4 was a much heartier beast than the GNX2

Still using the GNX4. Taking a trip to NY this weekend and it will be with me. One of my better business travel companions throughout the years. That and my Fernandez Nomad.
My latest cd had most of the guitars done with the GNX4. Check it out if you like.
Just like real amps, with modelers the secret sauce in recording guitars is proper gain staging of the tracks. Less is more especially when gain staging.
