Anybody know of any issues with using PTP with Windows 8?
Thanks, and Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to you too - and all here at DT...
So. The only issue I can think of is that of your mental stability for purposely using winblows, especially v.8...
JUST KIDDING. I'm a virulent critic of windows, especially for use as a music-making platform. I'd rather record using a Walkman with a Barbie Does Hollywood toy microphone barn-job wired into it than windows...but, hey, that's me.
Another thing to think about is that PTP was designed to work with XP - a windows that's now 3 versions old. That ain't gonna help you.

You'll probably hear some improvement
Haven't tried Win 8 yet, but from what I read about audio drivers there shouldn't be a problem. It's probably mostly a question of getting the software installed.
Have not tried anything GNX wise on Win 8 yet. 7 Works so I suspect 8 would run too. 8 Is primarily a multi sys setup for mobile and desktop. Some people don't like the app icons but you can switch to standard 7 DT view easily. I think they actually have something with 8.
FWIW I have one sys on Win 8 running Sonar X2a Producer and it is very stable. Running a bunch of VSTi's as well as VST plugs on ch's and 8 stereo buses routed for varied ch groupings. Project is about 51 tracks. NO issues. 7 is just as stable.
Nice to be in 64 bit land. Took em enough years. Too bad Avid hasn't figured it out yet. I haven't touched Pro Tools 9 since X1 64. I still like Logic, but X1/X2 changed me back to Win platform with additions like the Pro Channel. I used to have to create 16-20 track buses to do what Cakewalk tossed in with X2. Most of the primary interface options work fine so not having Core and using FW Asio is just fine.
Amazing production tools in Sonar. Leaps ahead of many daws.
I took advantage of the 40$ price tag on Windows 8 so, thi is something I'll try. I don't have it installed (PTP) but I'll gte it in there and just run it though some basic tests. I'll report back when I'm done with it but don't hold your breath!
BTW, Windows 8 is great. People are complaining alot over it but, its a tool to run programs. Once you are in your program, it doesn't matter which OS you use. Windows 8 program swapping BTW is VERY easy *fast* and seamless. I think its a very good OS. I upgraded to it because I was still using XP - 64 bit and driver support for it was poop. SO being that I just built a new i5-2500k system, I figured I'd pick it up for $40 before they went full retard and upped the price to what it is now ~$100 ? or more.
