RP1000 into a Saffire 6 USB?

Sorry guys, been a long time since I've been here, I like a dumb ass sold my GNX4 a year or so ago, and finally got back into playing. Anyways, my question is, since I already have had the Focusrite interface, and I know the RP has built in, but can it be as good?
Also I already have my XLR outs from Saffire into JBLs, and my midi controller hooked up as well. So here's the question, what happens if I run straight out Left Out(mono) from RP into my interface? Will I lose the stereo effcts from patches that have them, really stupid at this, but didn't buy4 bills worth of equipment, not to get best sound!
If that is a problem routing, then what about 2 lines out, left and right from RP to Saffire, since it has 2 XLR/1/4 inputs. Then I don't know whether to use Instrument or Pad button on interface, as well as on the back of the RP, Amp/Mixer switch,(which one)? Damn I'm confused, I assumed just plug guitar into input on RP, mono out to interface, go to town in Sonar! Just don't want to experiment and fry stuff!
If anyone can make any sense of this, please help, if not, trust me, I'll understand, I'm confused again! Thanks for even reading! And bring back my GNX4 Digitech..please,lol!

  • No replies, guess people really don't like the RP series...or I've confused the hell out them, thanks anyways, try Digitech Support today, what fun!
  • hmmm...

I'm pretty sure the USB interface is the same, WDM ASIO should be better then any onboard computer's audio input... It's basicly just an aftermarket sound card.. like Soundblaster, etc... only built in. and the sync is good..

as far as the left mono situation, in reality, Yes you will loose the stereo effects.. But I think the right channel is routed to the left so your prestes should still sound good, just not technically balanced.. may loose some seperation.

Basicly I think thats how your setup is, my GNX4 at the moment is just used for the USB interface...

the 2 XLR's out in my opinion is the best idea, or the headphones,

Here's how I run all my stuff..
RP7, GNX3000, and BP200 are run from the Headphone jacks into a mixer. MM6, JamMan Looper are run into the mixer via Line-Outs.
I have an Art SGE in the effects loop for the mics, I just split the pre-post to turn it off on the other equipment.
The mixer is then ran into the GNX4's Line-In. then GNX4's USB to PC..

However I keep the levels low on the headphone jacks so I don't Clip out the signal or overload it. my mixer has an peak indicator on each track, as well as the main meter.

I have never fried anything by hooking stuff up different ways on preamp equipment,
******** However when using power amps etc.. there will be a problem ********
using line level ins and outs should'nt cause an issue...

Sorry I did'nt answer sooner, I just thought a RP1000 user would be best for the question...
  • No problem, I appreciate it. I was thinking why can't I run the 2 line outs on back of RP into the 2 line ins on my Saffire? Wouldn't that give me stereo in, and in Sonar, select for input on track Stereo 1/2, instead of mono? I don't know, forgot to call yesterday, but really don;t want to change interfaces back and forth(lazy, I know), but should be able to use alternate interfaces, especially with no MIDI on RP!
Wasted enough of your time, I'll get there, and let others know, thanks again!
  • yea, the Line-Out from RP to Line-In saffire should be golden..

There is an Amp/Mixer button on that channel,
you might want to check that both ways and see what difference it makes.
The GNX4 has those, but are Speaker Compensation changes.
    maybe it's the same feature.
The GNX3K does not have them at all...
  • I noticed the Amp/Mix button, thanks for reminding me! What do you think should be used on the Saffire, the 2 inputs are combos, but I'll be using cables, but it has an instrument, and Pad button, with a +48 for mic. Not using mic. so that is easy, but I wonder if I should use the Instr. button, or just plug and go! Sorry so many ?s, but I've tried to call Digitech, and Focusrite today, no luck yet! The RP is still under warranty since I just got it, they won't answer, we'll find out!!! Thanks, try to leave ya alone, but it sounds good to me through my amp, and better through my headphones. Would love to hear it mixed in Sonar, running through JBLs!
  • One of the reasons I use the headphone jack for the output is because it sounds better like a real amp. probably just try both and see which one sounds better,

Unfortunately tech support will probably not be much help,
it will be someone who will not even know about guitar, let alone be of help with hi-tech procesessor..

probably best if you just experimenting, just my opinion,
that's how I learned everything I know. Hands On.
  • Right on, thanks again, I'll just have to jump in there, like ya said and play with it! I'm trying , but back issues make hard to even hook stuff up sometimes, sucks, but surgery soon, and look the hell out!!! Thanks again, appreciate it! Sorry just noticed, I have an HP dv6 as well, love mine!
