Hands-free with Vista..a driver issue?

Have been using PTP and GNX4 for recording for a couple of years on a laptop running XP. It has been fine, no issues.
Recently changed to a newer laptop with Vista. Went through the normal PTP install and things work (albeit with a couple of error messages on startup and the MIDI drivers showing up as Digitech-Mac).
Recording, importing/exporting, playback all work OK.
Not concerned with X-Edit as I never used it.

But the hands-free function has disappeared and won't come back. From what I've read here, this is likely a driver issue. I foolishly went through the Digitech driver install before installing the PTP software. Unfortunately, the driver CD doesn't have an 'uninstall' option.

So the question is.....in Vista, how can I delete the XP drivers that I shouldn't have installed? I have no idea where to find them.

Or is it safer just to live with the inconvenience of having no hands-free?
Thanks for any help.

  • Sorry to hear of your troubles...but, yes, nearly everyone who has a GNX that \"upgraded\" to Vista had a buffet of problems, most of which have been posted about. Various work-arounds and solutions have been wrangled, but apparently, Vista is a garbage O/S that is not very GNX-friendly. You may have to forfeit the hands-free feature.
That said...most users here have forgone using PTP (and its hands-free capability) in favor of the many different softwares that are vastly superior in usability and quality, although don't offer the hands-free feature. Freebies include Reaper and Audacity, and there's many others that are low-cost that are also very good...and of course the various commercial products...
  • AFAIK you should not have to do much with the Vista drivers. If you installed XP drivers they probably won't work anyway.

Do you have V1.4 firmware on the GNX4? That is supposed to remedy issues with Vista and some users of Win 7. Win 7 users have not reported many problems with V1.3.

    V1.41

  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>guitar3456, what a useful link!
Thanks a lot, that's what I was looking for!
    Hope it'll work!

  • As long as you update the firmware,
and drivers there should not be a problem.

Scroll to GN4 and download the latest (DRIVER) and (FIRMWARE)
be sure to first remove and clean the old the driver... just for good measure.

I've had no problems with GNX4/GNX3K on vista, or Win7, and I'm using 64-bit..

  • This actually worked. As of 11-16-2012 updating my GNX4 to the Beta Firmware 1.4 work perfectly. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I uninstalled the GNX4 drivers from windows and then let windows find the device. The midi drivers are now generic USB drivers and no longer identified as USBMAC drivers. Afterwards I reinstalled the actual GNX4 device drivers from the website and the midi drivers (listed as USB generic drivers) still work.

In Sonar X1, and presumably X2, I setup a midi controller (digitech hands free controller) and assign the two USB drivers as in and out to the controller. Set my handsfree to USB and Presto! I start recording using my foot controller. YEAH. The link below will get you to a website that has the beta version of firmware 1.4.

If other problems arise over time I will update this post.

    Thank you for the post.
