I GOT A JOB-and interesting story
I have been unemployed since Sept 2008 from a layoff. As you all know, its very difficult to find a job in this economy. It has become a full time job searching for a job :? I sent and/or delivered hundreds of resumes(by my count way over 300), but alas, nothing. Although it was nice to be in the top 2 or 3 out 50-100 applicants on about 6 jobs, you can imagine the blow when I didn't make the final cut. Its like being very excited that you made it to the World Series, but the other team hit the game winning home run to end the series. Does anyone remember who the Yankees beat in the World Series last year--me neither. I have heard and seen on the news that I was lucky to have had 6 inerviews with 4 second interviews and 2 third interviews, some haven't been interviewed at all. I am to be comforted with that info? :x
Then, I get a call yesterday from a employer who has already interviewed me, but one of the ones that more budget cuts prevented him from hiring me. He called back and was letting someone go because they were not cutting the mustard. What...are you sure you have the correct resume'?...honey pinch me, I think I'm dreamin'. Has it finally arrived--my day of employment? He wanted to know if I was still interested and wanted to fly me to Houston(my old stomping grounds) for 3 days to spend the day with 3 other employees to see if it is still something I want. At this point, I think I would scrub toilets with a toothbrush
So this was to be a \"3rd interview/get to know the company/see it I like it\" type of trip. Plus, Cinco De Mayo in Texas with a liquor company that specializes in Tequilla
Pinch me again...harder this time.
So, Anyway, I told you that story so I could tell you this story.(sorry, thats how us Texans do it). My wife and I are sitting on the couch a few nights ago watching TV. An iphone commercial came on and I asked her \"would like that for your anneversary gift?\" and she replied \"I want a man with a job for my anniversary gift\"
I said I would see what I could do.
So...back to yesterday--when I got off the phone with my future boss, my wife asked me \"after the trip, when would you officially start\" I replied \"on our anniversary\" She smiled and started to laugh and said \"I guess I'm getting the anniversary gift I asked for after all\" \"I guess so\" I said and we laughed and hugged. Now, another bizzare twist to all this is that yesterday was my sons 19th birthday. One thing I know for sure, things work out in mysterious ways sometimes :?
I know one thing for certain, I will not forget the dates to this event.
Just thought I'd share that with everybody. See ya'll around.

Best wishes to you!
Welcome home brother.
Hope your new position and colleagues work out fer ya...
Tequilla :!: :?: By some strange one more coincidence, you wouldn't happen to be incharge of samples :?:  8) :P
It was great reading your story. Thanks for sharing.
I get a call the next day from my future boss  and he preceeds to tell me that the owner of the company decided to keep everything the way it was for now, so he can't hire me after all  Yep, now keep in mind-they already did this to me once and I gave them a second chance. I was speechless to say the least and held back a few choice words, afterall, I am a professional. The general manager appologized profusly(mispelled I'm sure) and try to tell me that him and the owner at a lengthy conversation about bringing me on board and making sure they were on the same page...I said \"same page, I don't even think ya'll were in the same book :?
Needless to say I was     I told the general mananger that they just lost their best salesman. I couldn't understand why they would keep a guy who worked about 9-3 everyday, nothing to show, but they wanted to pass on me with a proven track record(I know I'm tired of hearing that too), always surpased my goals, numerous sales awards, I...I... :? :? And I was going to do it for a low salary in hopes of large bonuses as the company grew. Blessing in disguise? Probably so. Who knows what stories I'd be telling if I acually worked there.
I also wrote a lengty letter to the owner, CC'd the general manager, and basically told them how very unprofessional they were, and I am a real person with a family etc. Told them they coulda had a Michael Jordan for a rookie salary. The owner e-mailed back and just said Sorry, hope everything works out for you. Yes, that confirmed it-BLESSING-IN-DISGUISE, Thank you lord. Thats all he had to say?-wow. Maybe its just me but...I was expecting a litte more than half a line of words-man, don't put yourself out, I thought.
Anyway, I know this is a forum to talk about musical stuff which is why I started the thread anyway. Yep, I WAS going to have money again to start buying musical stuff but  Although, I did have an interview couple days ago in Orlando that looks promising and I have a second interview with another company in Houston thursday. So, we'll see.
BTW, does anybody have a way to mass destruct a agave plant farm
Shredd, acually I am fortunate to have a very undrstanding Mrs's-she has been with me every step of the way. As a matter of fact, she was going to go to Houston, hunt down the owner and kick his a**.
GNX, thanks for the welcome back.
Rawb I need those samples after that day
Tal it would be an honor to jam with you. I know summers are hot, I lived there from 81-01. If I get a job in HOuston, I'm hoping that I'm not to old to handle that kind of heat anymore. If I had a dime for everytime I heard \"Its not the heat, its the humidity\" I wouldn't be looking for a job
gtaus keep looking forward is all you can do. Try not to dwell on it too much--it'll destroy you. Hope you find something soon-I'll pray for ya.
I'm in the same boat. I'm eating ketchup soup while I grind away looking for a new position...it's grueling 'cuz I'm used to not only making a decent living, but being productive and having pride in what I do and what I accomplish.
Thankfully, I don't have a nagging wife giving me the biz, nor do I have children eating ketchup soup while I languish. On the other hand, it'd be really nice to have someone in my corner with me while this drags on...so, at least you have that. We all must count our blessings and do the best we can...hang in there dood!!! 8)
And here I am now in a Rock cover band having all kinds of fun gigging with the guys but getting paid not much. At least it does not cost me anything to hit the woodshed for a great practice session, and I usually come up with a better attitude towards myself, my music, and my life. Zen and the art of bass playing, as it were.
Hope a new door opens for you soon. Best wishes.
Hang in there! BTW.. Wanna share the brand? So I can tells people not to imbibe in it.. in your support
