Just me? Or is it getting really quiet in this forum?

I remember getting my GNX4 and being all excited. I found this forum with like minded guys and over the years have learned lots. Used to look forward everyday to new posts and replies from previous threads. My inbox used to full of email notices. Lately, it just seems really quiet around here. Now it seems I see more posts of the GNX4 for sale on eBay then newbies coming to the forum with new excitement and questions. Maybe that's just life.

Before everyone leaves, I just want to say thanks to all you guys for the great advice over the years. And for the laughs. I know when Digitech discontinued the GNX4/workstation concept with no replacement, it really let the air out of my sails. Maybe I'm projecting too much. But I just wanted to make sure I thanked the members and board admin for the fine job all you guys have done over these last years. I guess I'm just missing all the many lively discussions of days gone by on this forum. Or is it just me?

  • Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    your too loud
  • Yeah I agree it has been pretty quite. I usually check in daily & like you said gtaus post seem few & far between. I also wan't to say a hearty Amen to thanks for all the help & insight over the years! I have grown so much musically by participaiting, reading posting music etc.. So if this site dies or goes away tomorrow? God Bless All & thanks for evrything!! 8) :D
  • As a long-time GNX enthusiast and Shania-pursuer, I - like 'taus - occasionally lament the decline in participation on the forum. I love the thing and, like 'taus, it generated a huge upswing in my interest in playing and writing/recording.
I guess the conventional wisdom would be that since the initial focus of the forum has been allowed by DT to pass into technological history, there's a corresponding decline in interest/discussion of it. That sux.
I think there'll always be a certain number of us that are GNX enthusiasts - they'll pry mine out of my cold, dead hands - but this forum won't attract new voices as much, since there's other, newer, different stuff out there. And those of us that love it will gradually move on to other things/gear, or play less, or be busy with Shania (once she starts returning my phone calls...heartless wench... ).
  • The unfortunate reality is that the older a workstation is, the more people move to other models, with other vendors, etc. They move onto those new boards, and join their discussion groups.

But there will always be a few of us diehards that come by daily.

Yup...there's definitely a core of us who are really die-hard GNX fans, myself among them...I just think it's the berries. So I hang around here regularly, just 'cuz I love to talk GNX and hear about it.
That, and surely one of these days one of you slobs will hook me up with Shania...
  • I swing by every day... Just ain't got nothing to say. Being an a$$hole stupid and ignorant... coupled with an inablility to actually play guitar no matter how hard or long I try.... I'm of lil value anyways....

Being that the self centered, all about me' attitudes rule musicians... so even as the gnx's get sold on e-bay ... those that buy them probably will just stop by to demand answers to a delimma probably covered in the manual. Which is cool, that's why this forums here... But most aren't interested in being a regular participant...

As for me? No one wants to jam with an inexperienced 50yr old.. Gnx will probably find it's place, back in the closet. Till the antique road show comes to town!:lol:
  • Because my cover band is gigging more and more, I retired my GNX4 last year and went completely rack with a Mesa Boogie Simul 2:90, Triaxis pre-amp and G Major effects unit...and some other stuff I won't bore everyone with. I bring the GNX4 with me as a back-up only, so I seldom have questions about it anymore. Regarding guitar stuff, which I never get tired of reading about, I mostly frequent Harmony Central now and post in the Backstage with the Band section. There seem to be alot of serious gigging musicians there and I do get alot of ideas. It is a rough crowd though and I get flamed from time to time Hahaha. In a way. I do enjoy the freedom of saying anything I please, but that does come with a price and there are a lot of A-holes there. Also frequent Jam Session from time to time and see Shredd post there as well.

I too really enjoyed many of the threads and the fun back and forth on some of the stuff. I do still lurk around here though, just to see what everybody is up to. I loved reading the setlist threads and took many of Guitar 3456's song suggestions to the stage to fatten up our song list. I also enjoyed Taus' many contributions as we watched his cover band grow and mature. And, of course, I am always up for a good Shania thread or hell, even a bad Shania thread.

Maybe see you guys on some of the other Boards?

    Peace

    JV
  • I think that, in part, it's because there are already tons of posts, and we've covered just about all aspects of the GNX in the last almost 5 years (August 30 is our anniversary). So many new users probably come and have most their questions answered without asking... I rarely find myself answering questions anymore.
  • Over 90% of my questions I can find answers for just by doing a search.I joined Oct. 13th,2007 and this is my 37th post.

    I purchased Toontrack's Superior Drummer right after Thanksgiving.(It was 50% off and I had a 15% coupon).
I have been spending a lot of time there. www.toontrack.com .

Between the owner's manual, the power guide, and the forums, and the fact that it really has not been marketed in well over a year,
all the bases have been covered other than newer users using applications for the first time(mics,monitors,etc...).

Another new website I have been checking out is Alan Parsons' www.artandscienceofsound.com .The site is self explanatory.

    Later.
  • Speaking for myself (which ain't sayin' much, since I've probably actually helped about 0.06% of the people that've been here ) I'm really glad that this forum has survived so long and that it's chock full of threads about the usual things that we've all dealt with, so that newb's can come in, get answers, and enjoy their GNX's without having to bother us with questions like \"where do I plug the guitar in?\".
Besides, the less time we spend working out repetitive problems, the more time you can all spend fixing me up with Shania 8) .
  • There is another board that was created as an additional support board for the GNX series. The board is still up, but it has morphed into a completely different board, away from the GNX series messages. It has several ex-posters from here.

If anyone is interested, check it out: http://guitarlogic.org

Just don't expect much talk about GNX's. Expect illiace to talk about modes a lot.
  • I been very busy with Midi and Sonar 8.5

Think I got it now, Synths are very fun and cool! Now can see myself EASILY doing searches for recording info for the next year and never asking a question.

But, Love you guys and appreciate all the great info and support!
  • \"Just me? Or is it getting really quiet in this forum?\"

IS IT THEN BETTER WHEN WE WRITE ANYTHING IN CAPITAL LETTERS?

sry, my hobby does hinder my hearing capability ;)

That might be a kickstart for the forum. Post some \"how-to\"s about midi in Sonar.
  • Hey guys, I too have noticed the decline in posts here and wish that things were still like they were \"back in the day\". I check regularly for new and interesting posts. I have been playing in a 60's cover group since November and we have been working pretty hard to get things right so i have been putting in the hours playing and practicing. Some might say that is a better use of my limited time than posting on web forums, but I must say I really miss the lively debate that used to permeate this forum. I will continue to check back. It's been a while since I have actually logged on here so I would like to say hello to all and hope that everyone here at GW is doing well.
  • yo 'peat, good to hear from you...and congrats on your gig. Speaking for myself (who else would?!?), I'd love to be spending my time gigging and practicing rather than prowling forums, moping over my crumbling career prospects, and pining for Shania and Anne.
That said, I also hope that those of us who are still interested in the GNX's - and maybe DT too - will continue to revel in it's excellent-ness.

That said...and this may be fodder for another thread, but...why is the only thing anyone's interested in these days is computer recording issues? To me, recording music on a personal computer is like using a tweezers to lift a car.
  • Hey guys,
    What's up? 8)

Ya things are kinda quiet round but it's understandable. I don't check in everyday anymore but still pop in every once in a while plus I don't spend as much times with my guitars as I'd like to.

Getting your hands on a PC is way easier than a Macbook and cheaper. Unfortunetly there are a lot more problems with PC's than Mac.

Wish I had the money for a Mac. :(

    Anyway Peace guys 8)
  • Sure it's quiet..
You got a product, that's discontinued..What's left to talk about??
Digitech should really research putting out an updated version of the GNX4. Somthing like a poor mans Axe Effex. I'd buy it in a heart beat..
  • My gnx4 just sits there in it's gig bag. And thats how it's been since I went back to stomps / tube amp. I'll probably break it out someday soon and it will sound all fresh LOL.

I do chk it out here every once in a while but not everyday like I used to. I do like to chk in at kewlpacks forum thestompbox.net
    Rock on my fellow axemen

    and God bless
  • This thread is sounding like a eulogy!

AlbertO and his crew stopping by to pay their last respects too?

    :(:cry::cry:

How about a gnx4 reunion, class of 05'
  • If you look at the number of users and guests throughout the day, they are about avg as they were more than a year ago. Usually when I get a break to come in I can find 7-10 people checking things out. Some post, some just read.

Most of the posts are actually discussions of usages and even about live use experiences... not too many topics starting .. \"guess what movie I saw\"
  • not too many topics starting .. \"guess what movie I saw\"
    \"How 'bout them O-lim-picks?\"

Really though...I agree with 'tal. With the GNX having been abandoned, the only people interested in it are those of us who have and love them. I think we should have a 'class reunion'.
But once I have a home (and a studio) again, I plan to resume posting my noodlings, most of which are done on the GNX...stand by for greatness!
  • My GNX3k is still alive and kicking, though the kicks aren't quite what they used to be. I'm probably going to replace it pretty soon, and the replacement most likely will be a GNX4 (yes, again). So I'm sticking around as long as this forum is up and running.
