compact flash card help!

Hello, 1st post here. Just received my GNX4 today, purchased on ebay. Everything seems cool except the flash card. I can't seem to remove it. Is there a trick to this or should it just pull out. Hoping the previous owner didnt damage it somehow. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • It should just pull out, there's no latch or anything. Just be sure it isn't jammed or stuck. There will be some resistance, but once it releases, it oughtta just pop out.

If the previous owner jammed it in, he coulda bent pins or something like that, and that would make it feel stuck. Does it turn on/function OK?
  • Yes, it functions just fine, This seems like a bad-ass machine. When i received the unit the card was already inserted. I tried to remove it but it doesnt seem to want to budge. When the data wheel indicates that it's on \"card\" it seems to read fine, if in fact that's what its doing. I just cant seem to pull the flash card out.
  • ya should just pull out... this may seem stupid, but check again that there isn't a small bracket preventing pull out... there was someone not to long ago that had a small bracket holding their card in, cuz it was a display model and they installed that bracket to keep the card from being stolen.

    ps..
I would contact the seller asap and ask 'em wtf!?
  • Thanks fellas, I'm gonna try to get it outta there but probably not tonight. If there is any damage then I'll contact the seller. I'm still happy however, these are bad mofo's! Thanks again for your help!
  • Yah, killer unit. I love my '4. Reminds me of my late-70's MXR flanger, never heard better before or since. They'll haveta pry my '4 outta my cold dead hands. 8)
  • Welcome to the forum, Warped. Just want to add that after you get the CF card safely out of the GNX4, I recommend that you only leave the CF card in the GNX4 when you are actually using it. When transporting the GNX4, I always take my CF card out of the slot because you could accidently jam it in the slot and break the connectors during your traveling/packing. Also, if I don't need to use the CF on stage, I just remove the CF card. I have read some posts where someone accidently kicks the CF card on the back of the GNX4 and breaks the CF reader. I've never had a problem with my CF cards or the GNX4, but I still think it's wise to pull the card when not in use to avoid potential problems I have read about.

I hope you enjoy your GNX4 as much as I have. It jump started me back into playing guitar again and I have never had so much fun. Best wishes.
  • Well today I pulled the card out. I cant get a grip on it with my fingers so i used a pair of pliers and gave it a gentle tug. Came right out. Looked it over and saw no damage. Slid it back in with no trouble. Turned the unit on and it reads the card just fine so no harm no foul I guess. I'm really enjoying this unit and cant believe I overlooked it for so long. Thanks again for your replies and tips.

Some CF cards have a little ridge on the end of the card so you can get a better hold on it. Some don't. I too have a problem with the cards that are harder to get a grip on. The CF card fits pretty snug into the slot, and it can be difficult to pull out the card. At least now you know that the reader is OK and you have an idea of how much tug you need to pull out the CF cards. Glad everything is working fine. Take care.
