Is it just me?
Is it just me or does GC really suck anymore these days!?
I went to GC yesterday, as they had left a message a few months ago saying I had a $20 dollar gift card to use on my next visit.. Then wanted to argue about how long it was since the message and me being there now.. I say I don't know.. The message only said on my next visit not when my next visit had to be! They gave me the card.. Go over to the accessory counter. I'll take 6 EB tens .. $37 an change... A few cuss words and I tell him online they say 6 for $22 an as far as that goes $39 for 12! He tries to tell to me..Really! I haven't heard that.. His nose is begining to look like a bullseye! And on top of that he looked like the original chubby nerd in the Chad commercials .. so that wasn't helping his cause!
So he looks it up and then tries to tell it would be the same price if I ordered online cuz I would have to pay shipping! WTF! LOL I'm still trying to maintain my composer but I feel a big scene comming on  AARRGh Long story short 6 string sets a package of picks an some pup tubing $11..
Why they have to make it so difficult to do business?, I have no idea!

A few months ago, I purchased a Martin D28 at GC and planned to install an under saddle pickup. So, yesterday was the day to take it in, as the service guy comes Monday to do stuff at the store and maybe he'll get it done quick (3rd party authorized for Martin service). My original plan was to install a Martin Thinline GoldPlus. So, I go onto the GC site and they have a 15% coupon but it says it doesn't apply to the Martin brand, so I don't print one. When I mention this to the GC salesperson, he say that isn't Martin Guitars, it's some other electronic company. So, I said can you print me one then? He looked at me like I was speaking some language he didn't understand.
I've spend a lot of money at this GC over the last 6 years. $20 is nothing for them to discount to keep a good customer. Of course, he just blew off my request. Then, they didn't have the Thinline in stock. I ended up going with a Fishman Matrix instead which probably is a better choice. But, I wanted that discount nontheless. Over the last few months, I've gone into GC and they didn't have what I wanted probably 3 times now.
That being said, I did get this brand new D28 (a keeper for life) for almost $500 under list on a price match at GC earlier this summer, a win for me on that purchase.

GC employees are one step above monkeys-flinging-poo. I don't need help with that.
More often than not I buy my gear from the guy I bought my first guitar from 34 years ago. He tells me to bring him the lowest price I can find and he'll beat it, hands down, no questions asked. He's never let me down yet.
/plug for a bud...
For anyone who lives in the D/FW TX area, check out Murphy's Music in Irving at MacArthur & 183. Ask for Mike. Tell 'em E.J. sent ya. He'll hook you up.
I've never shopped in store or online with GC. I've heard too many stories like above to bother with them.
I buy online through MF, Sweetwater, and occasionally Alpha Music. All my online/phone deals have been very good, and professional. I've also made purchases on eBay, and have had great results, but it requires more savvy than the online stores.
Like Jammer... I research what I'm after, and always have exactly what I want in mind, and where I plan to get it. I also have a long time relationship with my local dealer, and he has gotten the lions share of my business. [Marshall Music in Traverse City]
I've done extensive business with MF, mainly 'cuz there isn't much of anything resembling a real music store within several hundred miles of where I live (if there was, I'd try to patronize it, especially if they were anything like EJ's place...).
MF has always done real well, barring the time they screwed up an order during their big warehouse transition of '06 or so. That took many weeks to straighten out. But otherwise they've been great. The only other time I had problems there had nothing to do with them - it was Gibson's inability to deliver instruments as promised. This went on for months, and I eventually cancelled the order 'cuz I was unemployed and worried about $, so I'll never know if Gibby would've ever delivered.
I bet the returns dept. at GC doesn't speak English.
Um...BTW...I'm still up at the Hospital...can you come and get me? :? (ya better wear a disguise)
CRAP!.. I just checked.. they gave me Dulcimer strings... I'll make'm work!
Heck I already gave one axe a thoruogh cleaning and put new strings on it.. No wonder it took 2 hours to tune it!...
