sonuus g2m

Has anybody here used the sonuus g2m midi converter? I am thinking about getting it. The main thing I'm worried about with it is latency. How the device is setup I think I'm going to have to bypass the GNX4 and have it directly connected to my laptop. Theres one 1/4 input and 2 outputs: a midi out and a 1/4 thru. I was gonna get the m-audio midi to usb cable (have one in use now, works fine) and connect that to a usb port on my laptop.

Actually I could run it through my GNX4... I could have the midi out of the sonuus g2m going to the midi in of the GNX4. Midi out in the GNX4 will not be connected to anything since the usb going from the GNX4 to the laptop automatically sends midi data (right??)

The problem with using the GNX4 for me is that I have had zero luck in transmitting midi data from the GNX4 to my laptop.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also here is a link to see the sonuus g2m

  • I tried one at my Kb player's house. The latency is slight, but will vary depending on your Daw settings. It seemed to track better through his Yam S90 keyboard synth or external rack sound module.

Remember though, it's not polyphonic and only good for tracking single notes (no chords).
  • cool, I think i'm going to pick one up soon. I know it is only monophonic, but still, its so cheap I have to get it. The ones that are polyphonic are so expensive and some require a special pickup on top of it. I figure this will be a good first step into midi conversion.

Also Im curious how this thing responds to an ebow. Im thinking it will just end up being one long midi note with no variation. Im hoping not though.

That was pretty close to the description. Even without an ebow, it'll ring a while. I think it's good for doing bass lines, or if you play single notes but drive a SYNTH module. It's a cool step in the right direction, but not quite as close to a fully capable midi guitar or GK series pickup rig.

Otoh, when single notes were played and you added string vibrato, it tracked it okay. A little artifacts on the tail though.
