May you survive to the next round. 8)
  • Hope you get through to the next round Mike...
I made it through the 1st round, and play in the store finals next week.

It would be wild if we both got out of store, and met each other at the district level...

    Good Luck..

    P.S.
You might want to check out this site, of which I'm a member of..

The whole thing is about blues and KOTB. Formed by a bunch of KOTB refugees, after the 2007 contest..
  • Thanks for the good wishes everybody. I hope my knees don't shake off. I'm usually a very private person so this is a big thing for me.

Way to go Tal, we be pullin for you.

G Jammer, I look forward to meeting you.

  • Well I got the T-shirt. Was not one of the two to move on but I had a lot of fun and met some really fine guitarists. A special thanks to EJ and Shelly, for coming out and offering their support.

I will do this again next year!

  • You did GREAT Mike! Was a pleasure meeting you and your family.

Next year you'll have some company in the competition. We'll make a stand together to represent the forums. =)
  • Lots of really good guitarists out there. These past years winners have been phenomenal. That was really great you met EJ, and made some good memories. So is he as scary looking in person? He looks like he could have taken care of all your competition, by just sitting in the front row and glaring at them....gnawing on a toothpick.
  • Sorry to hear about it Mike, but I can just about assure you that the odds are stacked against everybody...(I figured it out and it's like 6400 guitarists competing in this thing..)...

Glad you had a good time and got to meet the Jammer..Both you guys are great guitarists, and lets get em next year...
  • Trying to remember what was played, I think two Gibson Les Paul guitars, four Strats, one telecaster, an Ibanez, and me and my Washburn.

It seemed the amp of choice was a Fender Deluxe with 2 twelve's, I used my GNX-3 on the Eric Johnson green channel, with the Sparkle Drive, 35 percent gain, as my stompbox. The lead off player, one of the Les Paul guitars, was the one lone player who opted for a Marshall head and half stack.

Of the two that moved on, one was playing an Eric Clapton Strat, sounded like the midrange boost was active, the other was playing the Ibanez.

Already I wish it was next year.

Oh by the way the senior guitar players held their own.

From my point of view EJ is a solid individual. When I finished he said you played great brother. Listen if a person rides on two wheels and plays guitar, well that's a-1 to me. Of course big rig drivers can be ok too I guess, if they have too.

  • There were some good players there, no doubt.

The guy who kicked it all off looked like he was a walk in. Just grabbed a LP off the wall and said \"I'm in!\". He didn't even stick around for anyone else to play. Looked like he bailed as soon as he unplugged.

I thought the two guys who moved on both played Strats? The last kid on the tobacco sunburst and the 2nd player of the night, older guy, dark sleeveless shirt, micro-cut hair, earring...didn't catch his name. He played with a lot of expression, both in his style, and in his face (he grimaced a lot! =). LP's and Strats were definitely the ax of choice for the evening. Next year I'll play either my 96 American Standard Deluxe (Lace Sensors, roller nut, 50th Anniversary model) or my souped up Epi LP Custom (EMG's). If I get a wild hair I may do it with my Schecter C7FR Hellraiser and see if I can get some raised eyebrows just by my choice of guitars. A 7 string with EMG's and a Floyd...in a BLUES challenge? Heh! :D

What was really amazing...while we were all standing around waiting to hear the results there was this young kid, couldn't have been more than 16 or 17 at the most, just wailing on a Fat Strat. This kid had feel and technique. Curious why he didn't enter.

It was a fun time and I'll definitely check it out again next year, if not enter myself.

Mani...I'm just a big teddy bear. I look like this so I don't *have* to be mean. Not that I can't be, just that I choose not to be. Ok, well...most of the time. :D
  • Great job on entering the contest. It must have been a great experience. Win or lose, you still come out ahead from the experience. Plus, it sounds like you got to see some great guitarists. I eat humble pie everytime I go out to hear another band....
  • Yo Manitou, no problems from this side. I should have used LOL or the emoticons. I have always got a chuckle from your jokes and such.

No offense intended to you or your profession.

Thanks. I'm not driving truck right now, and would give anything to have a job. I know I am only one of millions out of work, but it is both scary and stressful.
