Sale on Shure SM57/58 mic/boom stand/XLR cable Packages@AMS

I've been looking to upgrade my vocal/instrument mics for some time now. I came across these package deals at AMS for the Shure SM57 or SM58 with boom mic stands and XLR cables for $109.00. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-SHU-SM58LC-LIST and http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-SHU-SM57LC-LIST I bought the Shure SM58S (S for Switched) package for $114.00. It's rare to see a sale on these mics, and I thought these package deals were pretty good considering you essentially get a boom mic stand and XLR cord for only $10 more than the microphone alone. As a member in a gigging band, I can tell you we always need more boom mic stands and XLR cables. At any rate, the Shure SM57 and SM58 are great stage mics and they are built to last forever. These seem like great deals and I thought I would just pass it on.

  • I remember reading about how in \"the ol' days\", the roadies would actually pound the stage together with the SM58's, then put them up on mic stands to sing through.
I dunno if they still build 'em like that, but it shows to go ya what kind of reputation they have...
  • Well, I don't plan on using the mics as a hammer, but I can tell you that our gear gets lots of abuse on stage. Mics get dropped, stands fall over, etc... I've been reading lots of articles on home recording and mixing lately, and most of them recommend both the Shure SM57 and SM58 as great stage and studio mics (in my price range). I've been using some inexpensive Nady SP-1's on stage forever, but now that we are also recording for demos, I thought it was time to upgrade my mics.
  • yea, definitely good find Taus.....I need another 57 so I will gladly take advantage of this offer.

    Thanks!

DEFinitely. I've had the SP-1's; they're cheap, they sound OK, and no one cares if you leave one behind at a gig.
BUT...if you want any kind of decent sound, you have to get better mic's. Even the Berhinger XM8500's (about 20 bux each) are a big step up, and if you get Shure's, you'll really notice!!!
  • To put things in perspective, I bought those Nady SP-1's because they came with the boom mic stand packages I bought at MF. Boom stand, XLR cable, plus Nady SP-1 mic for around $20-30 per package, depending on when I bought them. Like I said, I have used them on stage for the past 2 years and nobody complained about the sound quality. I used the SP-1's not only for most of our vocal mics, but also for mic'ing the drums (since our drummer does not have a drum mic package yet). I managed to put about $4,000.00 in my pocket using those mics and you can multiply that by four times if you consider that everyone else used them too (lead singer has his own Shure SM58) just gigging on the weekends. So, I won't knock the SP-1's at all. But I am looking forward to the Shure SM58 and SM57 I just ordered. I know that they are better, and now that I am singing more backup then before and maybe will be singing lead on a song or two, so it was really time to upgrade the mics. I really hear the difference in quality of the mics in my home studio where there is more control over the environment. Also, since we are recording our live gigs and using those tracks for demos, I figured it was money well invested in the upgrade. Too bad I can't upgrade my singing voice as easily.....
  • $100 out of the 4K you've made gigging is well worth it. I'd gladly pay that much if I could sing worth a dam...
  • As you know, I've upgraded just about everything, mixers, speakers, power amps, guitars, processors, recorders, cases, cables, etc.... It was just time to upgrade my mics. It's not like I have $4K in my pocket from gigging. Just about all my money went back into equipment upgrades as I could afford them. Now that I am singing more, and we are recording our live gigs for demos, I thought now was the time to upgrade the mics when I saw you got a boom mic stand and another XLR cable for only $10 more than the mic itself. Just thought it might be a good deal for someone else, too.
  • Definitely a good deal. And I think you'll find, as you have with your other gear, that improving a weak link in the chain is always noticeable and always worth it. I bet your mic makes your vox sound even better, just like your new bass or the mixer or other piece.

Now, if only could find a way to improve my breath, or perhaps find discount calf implants. Then, surely, Cam would be returning my phone calls.

You like that one? That was a good one!
  • Is there some kind of editing war going on here, guys? I haven't figured out the joke yet, if not.
  • No.
    Sorry for hijacking.

Shredd made a double post, and asked for it to be deleted.
I used some of my stupid humor.
    iliace agreed it was stupid.

    I deleted myself.

  • It looked funny out of context, once shredd's duplicate was removed.
  • Well the thread wasn't getting much attention anyway. It was just an info type message for anyone who may be looking for a good deal on mics. I just didn't get the joke that was going on between you guys. Later.
