Owwww....
In a non-DT/music related topic (imagine THAT, coming from me
):
A terribly sad day today. And not just 'cuz it's the anniversary of D-Day, which both inspires me (by the courage of the guys who took on such a deadly effort) and saddens me (for all the young lives lost, just to knock down a nut like Hitler).
Sad, today, because my ex's dad died this morning, after a health emergency on Thursday night. She n I aren't together anymore, for some years now, but I've always been very close to her parents, who are the best people I know.
Her dad was 88, married 64 years, a WWII combat veteran. He died a painless and peaceful death after living a really good life.
But for such a wonderful man to pass on just leaves a huge hole. The world should be so lucky to have such good people in it...

May God Bless the family through this, and may this Patriot rest in peace.
This one stings; he was a really good man, one of the few I know.
I'm thinking of traveling to go to whatever memorial/funeral/whatever they have. After she n I ended (in '02!!!), she always said that when ever this happened, she wanted me to go with her, to put up some space between her and her older brother, who lives in S America and would be here for the dad's passing. He wasn't very good to her when they were little.
Now, she's married to a guy who won't let her older brother get away with squat, so she doesn't need me there.
So I'd be going more for me, less for her. I really adore her parents and I'll go just to pay my respects to him, and less so because she needs/wants me there.
My Dad was the bravest and strongest man I ever knew. He too was a WWII vet. Not many of this generation left now. Many are in their sunset years, and it's sad to see this generation of Patriots leaving us. They gave us so much of what made our Country great.
Looks to me like life is showing you a path other than what you were ready for. Embrace it bud, I think you're on a major skew path, and chance favors the prepared mind...After what you've seen revealed in the last little while, I'd expect you're well prepared...for whatever.
Take an acoustic on your travels. Open G, capo on 4th...spirits lifted

Just got back from traveling to the memorial. What an episode. I'm drained!
Overall, it was pretty lovely. There was nearly 200 people there (I'm sure I mentioned that he was a very well-loved man with many friends). Most of the reflection was on his extraordinary life and all the reasons he was so loved.
A few of the family members had a little trouble getting through their parts; my ex broke up a bit, and the grandson, who was extra-close to him, really broke down.
Another really overwhelming moment was the military honors (he was a WWII combat vet). The guys who did it were pretty cool - three young guys who felt very privileged to be giving honors to a WWII vet - and it was a very powerful part of the ceremonies.
But overall the feeling was that he was a fortunate man to have had such a great life, and a life he earned through his great spirit, humor, and faith.
I will miss him terribly. He was a great man, perhaps the best man I've ever known.
And I'm very happy that I was able to be there. It was a long drive, but too close (and too expensive!) to fly. But honestly, I would've come from anywhere to be there. His son came from Santiago Chile, and the grandson was on a plane in Philly 3 hours after it happened.
I also got to see lots of people I'd known through this man, so it was practically a reunion of sorts, albeit under sad circumstances.
And more importantly, I was able to offer some comfort to others in the family, and they were really happy that I'd come to pay my respects, since they knew I loved the man and he loved me.
I'll really miss him; he's the kind of person we should all strive to be. He always has been, and continues to be, a role model and an inspiration to me. If I could live my life as well as he did, I'd be very proud of myself.
I know the feeling..
Hang in there bud..
We need to treasure our Vets from all wars - they're pretty special people.
\"Never have so many owed so much to so few\" (Winston Churchill).
There are two groups who have my instant respect: firefighters and combat veterans. Bless 'em.
