Allman Brothers

Got a chance to see the Allman Brothers the other night with the Doobie Brothers as opening act. Steller concert with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks in ultimate fine performance. Doobies also turned in steller show. Double the awesome. It don't get no better. A fine uncompressed mix of
outstanding dynamics.

  • Here's the set list from the Portland Show. And of course the extended Jam's took some of these to a place man has never known before. While Haynes and Trucks aren't Allman And Betts, they are forces to be reckoned with in their own right. They truly carry on in the spirit of Skydog. And if you love a B3, Greg Allman is within a very short list of the best. After 40 years they still are one of the best at what they do and still highly inspirational. And there was plenty of faroutness to be had also.

  • The Doobie Brothers came out to my ship in the middle of the Persian Gulf back in the late 1980's and gave us a small USO concert on the flight deck. So I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for them. It was about the only good thing I saw during that tour in the Gulf. Hats off to the guys who take time off from their careers and perform for our service members overseas. It meant a lot to me and my shipmates.

  • I bet It was a great show, they never disappoint.... they are our hometown heroes here on the gulf coast. I met Dicky several years ago when we were recording at the same studio in Sarasota. i was on the way out and he was on the way in to do some tracks for a Jimmy Rogers tribute album he was contributing on. Really super guy... I jam with a good friend of his all the time, and T keeps telling me he shows up there from time to time, he hasn't any time I've been there, but I'm looking forward to it if he does one day. T has a few of Dicky's old Marshalls at his studio and boy are they sweet.

That tour is coming down this way if I'm not mistaken, I just may have to get tickets :D
