I'm NOT kidding!!!
I really really, really need some morale-boosting.
I'm two weeks away from being simultaneously unemployed and homeless. Thankfully, I've saved a bit and have a modest cushion to work with.
My problem is a place to live.
Compounding that problem is my dog (the \"no pets\" clause seems to be attached to about 90% of rentals), plus the fact that with a nationwide job search on, I might have to move at any time (hence no longterm leases, which is often required).
I've been calling and seeing everything I can - places in the papers, agencies, word-of-mouth...I can't find a place to live!!!
On top of that, I have four fine musical instruments (that can't sit in some storage unit), as well as some studio gear that would probably survive, but I'd feel better if it wasn't sitting in a storage unit.
Frankly, I'm getting pretty nervous and as the days go by it's getting harder and harder to stay calm. I can barely sleep. I can feel the panic creeping in, and it's getting very hard to keep it at bay and just get on with my efforts.
The genuinely pathetic aspect of all this is that I don't have family or friends that I can count on to tide me over until I put things together again...a place to stay, connections, whatever. I'm feeling pretty desolate and it's scaring the living crape out of me.

I'm sorry for repeating this because I know you have dismissed this option, but seriously, I don't think your former employer, who also was your Landlord by condition of your employment, can evict you without a Warrant of Eviction, or whatever they call it in your state. I.e., I just don't believe he/she has the right to dump you on the street inside of 30 days without some court Order and no court that I'm aware of puts anyone on the street inside of 30 days. Its usually longer than that anyway depending on how savvy the Landlord is. If you put up some kind of a fight, your employer, no matter what the circumstances were surrounding your termination, may find it easier to help you find another place (or even...gasp, another job) rather than the hassle of going to court to evict you. In some states, it is a criminal offense to put someone on the street without a Warrant of Eviction or some similar court Order.
I honestly don't think I have a leg to stand on, on that front. For one, I did get 30 days notice - I was informed I'd be let go on April 26th, and I lose the job (and the housing) on May 29th, which is 30 days +.
Besides, my soon-to-be ex-employer is a heartless SOB with a team of lawyers that'd eat me for lunch. He'd probably consider it sport to fork up my life if I put up a fight. :evil:
Deal was, the LANDLORD wanted to change the terms of both employment and residence. Some strange wording in the contract did not go the landlord's way. You should check with local and state laws to see what the rulings are in your case of residence. A 30 day eviction notice from the landlord is not usually acceptable in courts. That is only a private notification from them, and may not be the actual law. Keep your head up! Confidence in yourself will bring better things. Easy to say, but it's true.

Better read before you stick your head in the sand shredd. Your dwelling is separate from your employment. Get tough on this , would ya ??

Have you looked into anything to protect yourself or are you going to put your tail between your legs and sleep under a bridge while your axes rot in variable temp and humidity...I'd be pissed instead of neurotic about it...Fook 'em...Find out your rights before saying you don't think you have a leg to stand on. Then, exercise them. Bet you could easily buy another 30/60.
I have not seen where you have been given an eviction notice...Hell, the Sheriff can't touch you without it...neither can the landlord...you OR your property........Someone gets in your face, fire up the 'corder on your cell...you are NOT the one who needs to walk a fine line here...

That's when you will be officially notified. YOU HAVE TO BE NOTIFIED IN WRITING. And then you should have at least another 30 days. I agree with Hodge, I'd get PO'd, Real PO'd. Besides you got nothing more to lose and potentialy more time to gain. Find an eviction attorney.
To follow: I read the url hodge put up, and a couple others like it...and the situation is as I said before: I don't have a fight to make. I don't have a lease or any other binding form of residency; my housing was a benefit of my employment, not a separate, legal, or binding arrangement.
In fact, my employment itself didn't involve a contract or terms in writing. The biz I'm in is based on good will and good intentions, not contracts. Not a great arrangement in modern times, but that's how it's done.
So even with legal representation - not that I could afford anyone that would have a chance against his horses - I don't have the right to insist or demand that I be evicted/\"removed\" forcibly. They hold the privilege of providing (or NOT providing) housing, based on my employment. Since they gave me 30+ days notice of the end of my employment, they aren't obligated to give me any more notice than that for the housing either. Even the webpage says that (and that's Cali, which is more intent on protecting consumers than Colo. is...).
