constructing Drum MAPs and playing them back
Wow I am frustrated. I have been trying for two days to master the drum kit mapping in PTP. I have followed the tutorials online from Craig Anderton. My problem is this: I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING ON PLAYBACK. MY MIDI OUTPUTS ON PTP BOOTUP TELL LME THAT I HAVE DIGITECH MAC USB MIDI IN AND OUTS. I AM USING WINDOWS NOT MAC. my regular usb input and outputs are normal. usb hub 1 in 1 out.
Here's what I am doing. I created the drum map in the drum creator view by following the online tutorial. I have headphones connected to my GNX4. My usb cable is connected to the computer and GNX4. when i click a drum sample such as snare etc. I don't hear it and I am supposed to hear the beats when i click them. When I hit the playback NO SOUND> whats up with my midi install?
Someone walk me thru this!

In Pro Tracks select OPTIONS> Midi> Set DIGITECH USB MIDI

Follow the flash version to have access to drum map downloads. The drum maps identify the kit for ProTracks and the GNX4.
If you do not have DIGITECH USB MIDI within the midi options, you need to verify in your device manager that Digitech USB MIDI is available. If it is not, you need to reinstall that driver. If you have too, reinstall the set and when you get to the device manager you can always remove or disable Digitech MAC USB.
The problem must be in the midi drivers. because I never have had the plain ole' digitech usb midi drivers. They have always shown up as digitech mac usb in and out.
HOW DO I download the windows midi drivers?? Isearched the cd that came with the unit but didnt locate them.
I can go to device manager and delete mac drivers. But I cant find the windows digitech usb midi.
Anyone?

If you have uninstalled and rebooted, connect the GNX4 via USB and make sure the port you select is always the same USB port used or your pc will prompt you for drivers.
During the install, you will get messages \"Driver Signing\" always click Continue Anyway. As the drivers install, windows balloons will prompt each driver application.
Digitech USB MIDI
Digitech USB Editor
Digitech USB 1-2
Digitech USB 3-4
Digitech USB MAC
when finished will prompt \"hardware is ready to be used\"
later, you can go into device mgr and disable USB MAC if you want to avoid confusion within Pro Tracks Options settings.
When you get into ProTracks, highlight the specified drivers to be used and select \"move to top\" from the dialog box. Close and restart Pro Tracks.
What I meant is if you run the installer again and it fails, to then uninstall the drivers and reinstall them from the software dload/disc.
Others have chosen to select a different USB port and start over which worked for them. Usually the process is straight forward, but sometimes certain things like Antiviral programs, different sound drivers can interfere with the driver installs and you may have to disable the Antiviral program while you are running these installs. Many programs recommend no other programs utilities running during software or hardware driver installs.
Hey, Mike. One of the first things I suggest to everybody is that they have the install manual in one hand and the keyboard in the other during install because you have to manually change default settings for the GNX4/PTP to work properly on a PC. Yes, the midi drivers default to MAC even if you have a PC. You must manually change that setting during install. The install manual tells you that, but I suppose too many people are used to just accepting the default values during install. Unfortunately, The GNX4/PTP software will not work that way for the PC.
I installed my software on a WinXP machine and changed the default values manually when directed in the install booklet. I have never had any problems with my setup. However, I don't have Windows Vista and can't comment on issues with that OS. I hope you get your issues resolved. My suggestion, at this point, if you still do not have it running right, is to uninstall the programs and reinstall them with the install manual in one hand, and the keyboard in the other..... Best wishes.
Now, do I uninstall PTP? Cakewalk? xedit? and the drivers and start new?
Or can someone save the digitech usb midi to a file and email them to me?
Digitech USB MIDI

On my vista system the wording never pops up. \"DIgitech\" and it nevers gives me the usb midi. Still wondering how I should go about this.
When I got my GNX4, Vista was not even out yet. I dedicated an older WinXP Dell laptop just for GNX4/PTP recording. The GNX4/PTP works perfectly on that machine and I never had any desire to upgrade to Vista knowing that there are usually problems with running software designed for one OS (WinXP) and trying to get it working on a newer OS (Vista).
But your driver problems are not the first with Vista, and I do believe the newer drivers for Vista are out there somewhere. So don't give up hope. I'd start with a search on this issue within the forum or maybe searching the Digitech web site for GNX4 Vista drivers. Take care.
On a side note. If my Compact Flash card is full will it create problems when trying to record to my laptop?
I was trying to record into pTP the other day and things kept freezing up and i was getting drop outs. Neverhad the problem of dropouts before I downloaded abunch of MP3 files onto my CF card.

I don't think that a full CF card would have any effect on recording to your laptop. It has never affected my ability to record on to the laptop. I'd suggest doing the obvious things first like ensuring that all unneccessary background programs (anti-virus, etc...) are not running when you are recording. Also, I would frequently defrag the harddrive which seems to help in general, and specifically if your harddrive frag rate is very high, it can make a big difference.
As for the drum creator issue, I bought Anderton's \"The GNX4's Power User's Guide\" which has his tutorials on making drum patterns AND he includes software on the CD with the book that makes the process really simple. I have said many times before that I thought the purchase price of the book/CD was worth it just for the time it saved me in the area of programming the drums alone. You don't need Anderton's software, or book, to do similiar things just with the software that came with the GNX4, but his book and software just made everything easier for me and got me up to speed much faster.
I don't know if the online tutorials are exactly the same as the tutorials in the book. The tutorial in the book walks you through his steps using the software on the CD. It really was a good deal for me.
I'll keep trying
Uninstall what have (XP drivers most likely).
Once those are gone, just connect the GNX via USB and Vista should autoload the drivers for you. Connect to internet in case Vista wants to hunt them down.
Should you need specific files or have hardware issues I suggest contacting Digitech support and they can provide what you need. Every system is different and there may be specific things you have impeding the installers. FWIW, Vista SP1 usually goes very smooth.
CF card is only read when the CF storage button is on and should not interfere with any programs or utilities since it is not detected unless it is enabled (CF Storage button on).
