Local member succumbs to GAS! Critical cond, details at 11
Saturday was my birthday, so I took advantage of the moment, and relieved some G.A.S.
I bought this '60's Hofner classical off eBay, and should brag about the deal.
Final minute it looked like I was going to get this for $82...then in the last 15 seconds someone pushed my final price to $112.00.
I think that still qualifies as a steal for a guitar like this. $25 S/H.
Spruce top, nice tight grain, and a sweet flame maple back. Pretty clean, only a few tiny marks, straight neck. I think this is the Flamenco style guitar. They have a little lower action.
I don't know the actual value of this guitar, but considering what you get in a guitar for a hunnert these days...this is far superior in material and craftsmanship. I'm happy...but it's going to be a few days yet before it arrives. I haven't played a nylon stringer in years. It should be fun. I've downloaded a bunch of the classical and flamenco/Spanish GuitarPro tabs...good to go. Wonder what I'll name this guitar?
(no not \"The Hof\")
I think I will use the alias of;
\"Manitoulio The Gringo\" while I play this guitar.

and try to make the wimmin dance.

Have fun with it - nothing like a gringo flamenco player to charm a dancer out of her skirts...
 Your dancers wear skirts :?:  :P
Manitoulio da Gringo! Vaquero of the northwoods, shredding on some
Al Di Meola :!: while Charro cha cha's thru the pines :!:

Rawb screeches to a halt....... CHARRO :?:
Whoa! sorry mate, got carried away there! Plenty of lovely Senoireta's south of the border. Take your pick, but go easy on the Cuervo or you just might come home with Charro!
WTG manitoulio, hope it plays better than expected.
Oh and belated Happy Birthday!
[Manitoulio] Jess, eet is truth, for I am the \"Manitoulio.\"
My calling is to seek the geetar that make the wimmons dance!
I must go, and don my stretchy pants and cape, and take up the geetar.
[Sister María Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Moquiere de les Esperades Santa Ana Romanguera y de la Najosa Rasten.......or Sister Maria] Stretchy pants???
[Manitoulio] Jess Sister, when joo are a man, sometimes joo wear stretchy pants. Es just for fun.
Manitouliooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Oh and BTW can shredd crash at your B&B if he needs to?
Does Shania ever stay??? 8)
I think it's a 1970 5120.
I needed to lower the action, (cut the saddle down as far as possible to get 4mm E string height at the 12th fret) replace a missing 2.5metric screw on a tuner, and put new D'Addario's on. That's the cheap fix. It's going to need more of my luthier skills later down the road, when I'm in the mood to do the project start to finish. It does have the potential to be a great guitar. It is not a high end Hofner to begin with, but the tone wood is fantastic.
For now I am playing it everyday, and struggling to learn the new techniques. I never took the time to learn picking and strumming without a pick...let alone picking with my fingers using all but the pinky. The left hand is adjusting okay to the wider neck and string spacing...and the looser feel of the strings. The right hand is resisting and pretending to be completely incapable of learning anything new.
Playing some old Beatle songs, and Eagles unplugged version of Hotel California. That's been very cool.
This guitar is fun though...
I know this es how joo say...selfish of me...
Compañero's, I haf been trying so hard to step up my game on her. I haf increase my fan mail, and even been sending her recent photosgrapics of my new personna as Manituolio De Gringo! Chix love guy's in a cape. I theenk I really might have a chance now. Especially ef I can learn a sweet little rumba tune...and make her wanntou dance, and let her guard down...juno?
Matter of fact, at that time, my friend and neighbor was Doug Irwin, for about 5 years. Jerry Garcia's luthier. I got to hold and play \"Tiger.\"
I was really into doing inlay work. I'd find old wrecks of a guitar, and rebuild them. Doug built them new...I resurrected the dead.
You lived in Austrailia? The croc-hunter was your neighbor? 8) I didn't know he built guitars too?! :P
\"I'd find old wrecks of a guitar, and rebuild them\"... This is kinda what i'm trying to do right now, but ain't finding much of anything to waste my time on  ... But it sounds like you have a plan and your inner luthier is expectantly happy! So reckon everything worked out right! 8)
I still have a sweet stash of exotic wood. Ebony, flame maple, birds eye maple, and enough rosewood to do several backs and sides and a half dozen fretboards. Some nice sheets of inlay woods, and plenty of mother of pearl, abalone, turquoise, yada yada. All my tools too. It's all just sitting in my basement. I'll get back into it again...I hope. I use to enjoy it.
