Tried out the RP1000 - keep your GNX4 guys...
Unless you want a looper and effects switching, there is no reason to switch to an RP1000. It is a good sounding unit, but it is not a \"generation\" improvement over the GNX4. Their rack stuff is still better and it looks like none of it went it the RP1000
Seems like if you are using the pre-amp switching and effects switching, what is the point of even having an RP1000?
I was really expecting it to blow away the GNX4

Well, 1st of all, Digitech has gone to being performing/recording units and no longer guitar workstations. But I absolutely don't understand your point. The AudioDNA2 process is definately worth getting an RP500 or an RP1000. And if you're a performing guitar player, the RP1000 is awesome with it's new patch routing. There's no floor pedal on the market that can route like an RP1000.
Believe me, I was ready to buy it. I had cash in hand! I spent an hour over at Guitar Center with it and I wasn't impressed. Even some of the presets were named the same as the GNX4. I can't see someone who already has a GNX4 purchasing the RP1000 to improve their sound or tone. I like the switching and looping, but I don't think it is worth $500 for just that.
If my GNX4 died, I'd get the RP1000 in a heartbeat as I don't need the drums or multitrack.
Just my opinion so definitely try it out before you buy.
Not sure what you mean by route. If you're talking internally, then Boss GT series can do it, at least GT-8 could, with fully flexible effects placement.
Me too. I never regretted my GNX4 purchase, and I still haven't found anything better to replace it.
The GNX2 is the GNX3 without the recorder. The GNX3 and GNX4 are basically the same unit, with some minor changes, like connection type (from spdif to usb), but the main board is the same.
I remember doing a side by side comparison of the units in Guitar Center many years ago, and the sound was EXACT. When I posted my findings here, I was blasted by people asking me what changes I expected, since they both use the same chips.
As much as I like the GNX4, I know it's not perfect. Many of us have suggested improvments which we would like to see in the next version of the GNX series, but that seems to fall on deaf ears as Digitech has no plans on continuing the series/concept. But, you would think that a newer GNX could also have newer chips like the AudioDNA2 built into the system. And I would like to see a separate path for the guitar and mic so you could apply different effects on each for live performace. It's not a big deal with recording as you can apply effects after laying down the dry tracks, but having separate effects when playing live would have been a nice touch to see on future models.
I agree, but also think it would add a couple bills to the tag just for that feature. Take the fx alone.... add it up what you would pay for each individual pedal. Whether digitech or not. With the \"learning curve aside\" I couldn't be happier with my gnx! And every now and then I get a passing concerning thought as time goes by. what the he11 am I going to do if it goes kaput! Right now they can still be had... but what if it goes kaput in 2+ yrs from now? Kaput as in not cost effective to fix!
I can't say I would go rp or not, to me the gnx4 is everything it was advertised as! And it was just what I was looking for. Though I am not nor have been in every situation to use every feature of the gnx... you never know when you might be! I am facinated hearing.. ie reading here, what this thing does... seems like every once in a while I read something, and I am like \" I didn't know that! \" Guess that just proves how technically challenged I am  But hopefully in a few more yrs Digitech will have us gnx junkies jones'n enough that they will come out with a new workstation, and we'll pounce on it like flies on...... garbage!
What reps have said was the GNX4 is the last of it's current generation of production workstations \"at this time\" so the concept of the workstation is not dead, just not in the current lineup of new products. With the advent of more interfaces and software recording, it may very well be the last that supports internal recording capability.
However, with the growing demand for Portable recorders like the H series Zoom, Edirol etc, you very well may see another generation of Workstation with those capabilities in the next generation of products. There are a few ideas on the table, but it will depend on demand and costs.
My dream GNX would be one that sports 16-24 track recorder/sequencer functions with a pad controller, CF or SD with up to 32GB mem capacity. Internal MIDI routing with a THRU port and Firewire interface! yeee haaaaaaa
Now, if a FireWire interface would get Shania to return my phone calls, then shoot, I'd be upgrading in a heartbeat... 8)
I wasn't talking about the cost of adding two channels. I was talking about, why should DT give 15 pedals for the price of five?
Guitar3456, thanks for the glimmer of hope!
I also like that I can go to a gig with it and a PA and my guitar and that 's all I need.
For solo gigs I can have my backing tracks . No need to risk a laptop.
I agree with Mike ...More tracks on the handsfree onboard recorder and firewire interface.
I also love the warp feature.
I love the all in one concept of the GNX4 and I don't find any of the newer amp modelers to be that far ahead as far as sound quality.
It sure beats carrying a Fender 59 bassman,65 Twin and a JTM 100.
My three favorites. I just love this damn GNX4.
I get tons of compliments on my sound as well.
I'm familiar with the 4 cable method. But the RP1000 can do the 4 cable method in order to route using your amp's effects loop, but it also has seperate routing for outboard effects pedals as well. The BOSS units can't do that.
